Diaw to re-sign with Spurs

Written by Paul Garcia on .

Earlier this morning, we posted a report that said the San Antonio Spurs were confident they would beBD able to re-sign Tim Duncan, Boris Diaw, and Patty Mills.

Well it looks like that report had some accuracy as Diaw has decided to re-sign a two-year, 9.2 million dollar contract with the Spurs according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

As written in our first report, the only sign that showed Diaw was most likely going to end up back in San Antonio was the fact that Tony Parker said Diaw left all of his belongings in Parker's San Antonio home before leaving for France. After playing 3/4 of last season in dreadful Charlotte, the Bobcats bought out Diaw's contract and he signed with the Spurs. After just a few games with San Antonio, Diaw made his way to bumping DeJuan Blair to the bench and becoming the full time starting center.

Though he's just 6'8 at center, Diaw gives the Spurs more versatility on offense and defense because he can pass, shoot, drive, finish in the pick-and-roll, and because of his extra size, he can hold his ground in the post when bigger players try to move him.

The Spurs had five free agents on July 1, two have elected to re-sign, now everyone will await word on Duncan and Mills.

9.2 million will be WAY TOO MUCH for a player like him. Don't even know if they are gonna use the MLE, why sign Diaw instead of guys like Camby? I thought they will sign him using the bi-annual exception but it seems I was wrong.... The Spurs just dug themselves into a hole!

@WOW Did you not see how well Diaw played this past season?

I can't wait to see what he can do with a full training camp. Diaw was very impressive last season and you're acting like he was trash. He was the second best big man on our team!

Yes.. we need a defensive 7 footer. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't sign Diaw, right?

@russman138 I don't take those small samples. He's overweight, out-shaped. I don't think he can provide that kind of energy if playing 82 regular games. In addition, are you planning use him to defend those monsters? Bynum, Gasol, Randalph, Griffin....etc?  TD cannot do it all, especially at this stage. Bonner, Blair, Diaw, none of them can help defensively. Splitter has the potential to do that but he needs time. Diaw just not worth almost the full-MLE that's my point, if we bring him vet minimum then it's ok.

The need for a long, young, athletic player to man the interior remains. Diaw is fine but, he is NOT the answer.

Nice deal for Dwow AND Spurs..and lol @ all those not-so-bright-ones that have been advocating blowing up a team that was only 2 wins from finals. WAY too many completely SPOILED "fans" that seem to think they know better than proven PROS like RC/Pops.
