With Dwight Howard deciding to “take his talents” to Houston, the list of available quality centers is dwindling down.
The San Antonio Spurs are not likely to pursue Andrew Bynum, due to his questionable health record, lack of willingness to work out for prospective teams and the limited access he gave teams to his medical records.
Greg Oden, whom the Spurs have reportedly have interest, is viable big man that is still available on the free agent market and would fit well with the Spurs on both the offensive & defensive ends of the floor.
The emergence of Kawhi Leonard along with the growth of Danny Green, alongside the "Big Three”, have shown that the Spurs have more than enough offensive firepower to compete with the league’s elite teams. This will allow Oden to focus more of his attention on the defensive end. Any offensive contributions would be seen as a cherry on top of the sundae.
With Splitter back in the fold (and the addition of Jeff Pendergraph) alongside Duncan, the Spurs have the basket well protected should anyone get past the perimeter defense. The Spurs consistent presence among league’s defensive teams will they can man the fort while Oden gets acclimated to the Spurs system and doing his rehab to get back in to game shape.
The patience showed by the Spurs in allowing players to develop/get ready at their own pace (via their "Draft and Stash" philosophy) is something that will truly benefit Oden.
This patience will put Oden at ease by giving him all the time that he needs to ensure that his knee is 100% before even thinking about stepping foot on the court.
The more initial success he gets, the greater confidence Coach Popovich will have in him, which will lead to a bigger role come playoff time.
With how the playoffs ended the last two seasons with the bench being M.I.A. and Duncan approaching the end of his career, having all hands ready and able contribute is of utmost importance. Not to mention he will come cheap, and at a shorter contract should the Spurs want to fill the final roster spot. In other words, he is low-righ but high -reward.
Well Spurs’ fans, how do you feel Greg Oden look in the silver and black?
No decision yet from Oden. If he goes for money, it won't be here and may show he might not have the confidence in his knees to show off this year THEN get big bucks again. From what I read about him, seems lowkey but lights and glamour of Miami could be enticing to him. We'll just have to wait and see.
He's heading to So Beach Fellas. Riley and the younger 3 out there will convince him . aaaahh Miami or San Antonio... Beaches or the Alamo no brainer for Greg ..That game 6 was BS . That trophy should be here. Oh well we will be back next year Greg Oden or not !
Would love to see Oden resurrect his career, and I would love for us to be a part of it. You wouldn't gamble the future of the franchise on it or anything, but i absolutely think he has something left in the basement so long as his damn knees hold up.Low risk - high reward sounds about right. Greg Oden, come on down.
I liked what Oden had to offer at Ohio State and his short time with the Blazers. He actually has the right attitude and personality to fit well with the Spurs. Plus, Spurs have better reputation for preserving careers and managing player injuries. For Oden, I don't think Heat provide a better option. Best team hands down? In what universe? The Larry O'Brien trophy should be sitting in San Antonio, but I've beaten that dead horse already.
THERE'S IS NO REASON FOR ODEN TO GO TO THE SPURS.
GREG ODEN... IF YOU HEAR ME... GO THE THE MIAMI HEAT. It's the best team for you HANDS DOWN!!!
@Jay T JUST MAKE YOUR OWN PAGE DUDE...AND STAY THE FUCK OUT OF THIS PAGE
DON'T YOU HEAT FANS HAVE YOUR OWN PAGES?
does oden has something to offer after this injury in the first place? we might be signing a guy who would just sit at the bench all throughout the season.
@dencio But that's the thing. We can risk it. Oden riding the bench all season isn't going to hurt our chances of winning the championships next year. But you have to remember, this is the guy who was drafted BEFORE Kevin Durant. And it's not like Portland picked him in the draft and everyone said "What a dumb move." It was a collective agreement that he was the #1 draft pick. If he can come off the bench with great production, that will be great for San Antonio.
I think his picture makes him look like an old man. You know, the type of old man with bad knees. Let him go to Miami. Both him and Miller can be plagued by injuries together.
when is this guy gonna hurry up and make a decision for crying out loud? i mean he had all last year when teams wanted to sign him, i dont get it. hes taking wayyyy too long
@JohnAbney Yes of course that is why he would go to Miami... It couldn't possibly have anything to do with playing with the best team in the league alongside the best and most unselfish player on the planet... douchebag.
Best team yah rite they had to buy that team and david stern let them spoiled brats spurs wouldve won i tp didnt strain his hamstring spurs 2014 PS SPURS got more rings than the heat fact.#TOLD
@SpursAllDay11 ok 2nd place is better... lol
I think he will b a great addition to our front court. Especially with tiago dissapearing during the playoffs every year
Yeah because Tiago didn't shut down both Gasol's, Howard, and Zach Randolph to get us to the finals last year.
@ManuParker Douchebag says what? Still bitter about the Finals eh?
@BryanGarabrandt HEY YOU BRYAN..DICKHEAD.....JUST FUCK OFF OKAY??? THIS IS FOR SPURS FANS...NOT FOR HEAT BANDWAGONERS ....JUST GO AND FUCK YOURSELF....AND MAKE YOUR OWN HEAT PAGE
