De Colo discusses recent visit with the Spurs

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

French guard Nando De Colo recently was in San Antonio to meet with the Spurs to a undergo routine physical before he left to France to prepare for the 2012 Olympic Games.

The 2009 NBA draftee spoke about his visit with the Spurs and says it was a rather brief visit but did reiterate the Spurs told him they have a roster spot for him.

"It happened very quickly. It was a bit like the FNT (French National Team) at first meeting with Les Blues. Medical tests, pretty basic, nothing very important, and I left the next day. It was more for tests and I do not need to return. It's been several months but they say there's a place for me with the team but there are other decisions needed to be made about the team.  But we're still negotiating."

Seems pretty set in stone De Colo will be a Spur next season. And although he is not going to play for the Spurs' Summer League team, playing in the London Games against the best basketball talent in the world will only further his development. Not to mention, the French team runs a similar system as the Spurs and playing with Spurs' Tony Parker and Boris Diaw will also help his transition into the NBA.

De Colo scored 13 points and grabbed three rebounds against Great Britain in a recent tuneup game before the Olympics.

spurs need to go shopping around bottom line....get rid of blair, bonner and anderson...look for better deals perhaps Duncan can sign for a lower contract for 2-3 year deal...just saying

i was on hoopshype.com and checking out the rumors of course, then dejuan's face pops up and it says he wants to play somewhere else because of his diminished role. It also goes on to say that they're bringing in someone from overseas.... I wonder if this is who he was talking about? I thought it would be Lorbek but I guess not

Good upcoming Manu replacement for when Manu retires after this season.  Fortunately he came just as Manu's getting ready to go out.

Nooooooooo! Neither will change our future. I sense that he is just one option, as indicated by what was said. The FO is going to see how it meets its other needs before making a commitment to him. Thats good with me.

@russman138 Yes Kaman has been left standing without a team. He wants out and now the Spurs may be his only choice. I'll take him over 38 year old Camby any day. A  big body is a big body plus he can shoot and can block shots around the rim. May not have the athleticism we are looking for but he's good enough for what we need and can afford besides beggers can't be choosers. Add Randolph and do away with Bonner and Blair. Timmy, Splitter, Kaman, and Randolph. Tall and better than last seasons front court. As for DeColo a very good passer and hopefully he gets acclimated to NBA speed and style of play by the all-star break next season. Bring Richards in to play with the Toros for a whole season and if he sucks dump him but if he doesn't then he can contribute in Timmy's last year with the spurs.
