Report: Martin to sign with Clippers

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

It seems the San Antonio Spurs will have to look elsewhere for help in the paint.

San Antonio was reportedly one of a handful of destinations for free agent forward Kenyon Martin but according to the Los Angeles Times, K-Mart has agreed to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers once he is allowed to come back to the NBA from the Chinese Basketball Association's Xinjiang Tigers.

The Clippers and free-agent forward Kenyon Martin have agreed on a mini-midlevel deal that will be finalized as soon as Martin passes a physical, according to an NBA individual familiar with the negotiations.

With K-Mart off the shelf, could the Spurs step up their efforts into acquiring New Orleans Hornets' Chris Kaman for help up front? San Antonio is one of the reported teams interested in acquiring Kaman who has been sitting out games until the Hornets find a suitable trade.

However, the Rockets and Pacers seem to the the leading teams for a possible Kaman deal.

Currently, the Spurs have Tim Duncan, Tiago Splitter, DeJuan Blair and Matt Bonner but as you can see, after TD and Splitter, San Antonio is undersized and can use some help. But considering how well Splitter and TD have been playing of late, perhaps San Antonio will be OK during this short season.

What do you have to say Spurs fans? Now that K-Mart is LA bound, should the Spurs vigorously go after Kaman or do you feel they are OK with TD and Splitter?

Kamen is off the trading block so it's an irrelevant conversation but depending on who we'd lose to get Kamen, Kamen would have been a welcomed addition but sense he's off the block we need to focus on Manu coming back and if there's another option that becomes available to help our front court then we have to jump on it because getting Duncan rest is the most important thing the Spurs could do before the playoffs becuase as stacked as the West is and as big as the West is Duncan is going to get pounded night in and night out, now a healthy and rested Duncan can handle it but a tired Duncan won't be an effective Duncan. Kamen would have been a great upgrade even if he didn't produce many points his size and strength would help abosorb so of the pounding that would other wise go to Duncan.

Doesn't look like this is going to happen. I really wanted to see Kaman in silver and black this year, but I heard the Hornets were being as greedy as they were in the CP3 deal. I wouldn't have minded parting with a few people, but I heard they were looking at Leonard and/or Green. Way too steep. That being said, I think for us to make any run in the playoffs, we have got to find another big. That's been our Achilles Heal since the 2008 season. Fesenko anyone?

Kaman would be an awesome move for San Antonio, no doubt! It'll be a dream come true. Spurs need a big man off the bench though, hands down Kaman would be a steal if the Spurs can manage the trade limitations an keep some pieces an give up some drafts or cash considerations. Definitely Spurs need to make noise before the trade deadline.

The spurs will always be outbidded. They will get a big man during drafts because rookies can't refuse. They will be outgbidded in cased of Kaman. They offer so low that palhyers prefer other treams.

I thought he wanted to play for a contender?? Clips have no set plays, no bench and will lob their way out of a playoff series.

@zap Exactly! It's more like "I wanna play for a contender or who ever is gonna pay me more". Same thing with Caron butler! That whole play for a contender bs is always beat out by a little extra cash.
