Jackson: Warriors could've beaten Spurs

Written by Trevor Zickgraf on .

The San Antonio Spurs beat the Golden State Warriors last week when they pulled away during the fourth quarter. During that game Stephen Curry again sprained his ankle, taking him out of the rest of that game and he hasn't played since.

Head Coach Mark Jackson came to Golden State looking to change to image of his team's run and gun style. While talking to 97.5 The Fan in San Francisco, Jackson used the Spurs among others as an example that his team is good defensively.

“I’d like to invite you to come to a film session. My data speaks something totally different. We’ve played games that we should’ve won against the Spurs in San Antonio. The Lakers, Kobe was spectacular single-handedly, but Andrew Bynum, who has been dominating the league, had a tough night against us. … If Steph Curry doesn’t get hurt, [the San Antonio game] is a game we felt like we would’ve won."

I would agree that had Curry not gone down, the Warriors could've won that game. But it's not because the Warriors were stopping the Spurs, it's because Curry and Monta Ellis were torching the Spurs.

The day Steph Curry becomes the difference maker on defense is the day he becomes a legit MVP candidate. I like what Mark Jackson is trying to do in Golden State, but his team has a ways to go before anyone calls them a defensive juggernaut.

Sure they would have been better with curry, but spurs would be better with manu in the game. Injuries happen, and in this condensed season there unfortunately will be more to come.

They lost PERIOD. Tonight the spurs plays the blazers. It will a night to remember. The blazers are ahead on games won. Joseph will be tried. Were the spurs coaching staff right in drafting him? With tj ford hurt, he sub for TP. Malcolm Thomas will have his baptism of fire. Will coach Pops use him? He doesn't have the build of a pf/c. He is a "small" player. Where will he fit? Small forward? The spurs have plenty of them.

And the end of the day they're still the same old warriors.
