Video: Gasol picks Spurs to win the West

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

After defeating the San Antonio Spurs in the first-round of the Western Conference playoffs last season, one would think Memphis Grizzlies' Marc Gasol would want the Spurs again in this season's playoffs. With history and confidence on their side, one would think Memphis would feel the better matchup again would be San Antonio, right?

Well maybe not.

Gasol was interviewed on ESPN, and when asked which team he thinks will come out of the West, he picked the Spurs over the West leading Oklahoma City Thunder.

Gasol points to the Spurs' consistency, confidence, experience and effort as to why he feels San Antonio will win the West. However, Stephen A. Smith decides to open his big mouth and question Gasol's pick.

we have beat them 3 times this season, last time they didn't have Gay and they have him now.

I would love to play Grizz in the first round as opposed to Rockets, Portland or Denver. I think those teams are scarier.

yeah Randolph was a beast last series, but he was hot there is no way he can play at that level, considering Manu's broken arm and Tony and Timmy's mediocre performance they beat us in 6. If we play them again even with Randolph we'll win in 5. Remember? we have Tiago/green/tj ford now....

Other teams are just holding their punches. When the regular season is over and at the championship eliminations begins they play better. This is for placement purposes. The grizzlies are hoping that they face the spurs again.

Its a psychewar. The grizzlies are just icthing to do a repeat. It is no secret that the spurs are short of big men. Anyway, it is doubtful wheter or not the spurs will win the western conference without add'l big man. As the March l5 deadline approaches, it is interesting whether or not the spurs will sign a big man to bolster its interior defense.

Yeah, but this is a different grizz team, they don't have zach randolph, and darrell arthur, so their not as opposing as they were last year, to be honest with you if we played them this year in the playoffs with manu healthy, they have no chance even if we don't have manu they can't beat us in a seven game serious without randolph
