'Lin-sanity' doesn’t come cheap

Written by Kyle Boenitz on .

Who’s willing to shell out a few extra bucks to see the NBA’s newest sensation? Well it looks like you don’t have a choice. Since New York Knicks' Jeremy Lin came on the scene, tickets at Madison Square Garden have gone up 27%.

Teams playing the Knicks are doing the same thing too. The Toronto Raptors are playing the Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs on back-to-back nights.

“The Raptors have tickets listed for both games, and the price difference is immense. The cheapest seat in the house for Spurs-Raptors is a very affordable $12.50. That very same seat at the Knicks game the night before? $44.

“The Lin Effect is also apparent on the secondhand market. There are plenty of balcony-level tickets available on StubHub for both games. To watch the Knicks, fans will have to shell out at least $33, and balcony tickets are priced as high as $92. For Wednesday’s Spurs game, those same balcony seats are going for as little as $9 to $15.”

It’s hard to believe that one player can cause so much of a difference, but that’s the culture we live in. I’d rather enjoy "Lin-sanity" from my couch than know that I’m paying a lot more to watch one player when I could pay a much cheaper price to watch a much better team.

But teams wouldn’t be able to do this if there weren’t people willing to pay for it. If Lin continues to play at this level, we could see ticket prices even higher. So everyone make sure you get your next paycheck before you head to see Lin in person.

And guys, if you were thinking about getting your Valentine some Knicks tickets as a cheap alternative, you’d probably be better off sticking with the flowers and chocolate.

By the way, "Lin-sanity" makes its way to the Alamo City in March.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! NOT YOU GUYS TOOOOOOO! can we PLEASE not talk about the flavor of the month! lin is a flash in the pan, the flavor of the month. once amare and melo get back in it he will be nothing but a foot note in the history of the league. there is a reason the guy went undrafted, and was cut by what 3 teams? this just give mike dantoni street cred, and he is a TERRIBLE coach!

now back to the spurs!

@LFJeremy LMAO you took what sterny was selling you on this one. now lin is kurt warner/avery johnson material? or is he a flash in the pan who has not yet come back to earth? living in houston i remember ish smith in 2010-11 had about 3 huge games for the rockets, and everyone was like "holy crap morey is a genius!" where did he find this guy? wait where is ish smith these days? oh yeah, on his 5th team in 2 years.

this stuff happens all the time honestly. sure lin has had a nice run, cant argue that. but how long does it last before he is just a distant memory? kinda like over here in rocket land, they call it "the streak". most people barely remember their 22 game win streak, mainly because it was only 2nd best.

now all that said, who knows lin might just be a decent PG over the years, i expect not though. a product and to many people are buying it!

@LFJeremy people doubted avery, ummm yeah, people doubted tony parker a month ago, people doubted tim duncan all season last year and half of this one. whats your point? the point is, avery didnt "lead the spurs to wins", that is the claims of lin. sure he got some wins so far against some mediocre teams at best. teams that have never heard of him. 10 years ago nobody heard of tony parker, and nobody heard of tyus edney 20 years ago either.

dantoni had one of arguably the 10best PGS in nba history. the same guy who won back to back MVPs during his winning years. along with one of the most dynamic scoring PFs in the game today in amare. he tried and somewhat recreated stockton malone minus the defense that sloan asked for.

you are right about a couple of things, PJ more then likely doesnt have those rings with no jordan/pippen, shaq/kobe, kobe/pau/luck/refs.

so im not going to waste anymore bandwith, or time on this ridiculous conversation, i have other things to do.

@LFJeremy lets see here, NJ ranked 26th in defense, WW ranked 25th, utah ranked 22nd, minny ranked 16th, and la lakers are actually ranked 4th.

in NJ dwill is a tough pg to compete against, but he is vocally not happy and he has no help.

WW john wall is a good PG, borderline great but nobody (present company excluded of course) has ever accused him of being even a halfway decent defender.

utah, devin harris was once regarded as having great potential, ehhh not so much. as for being a "potential playoff team", they are a half game back, and 1 game over 500. your point? they also have the 15th easiest/hardest SOS in the league with the tougher part of their schedule yet to come. tell me which of the current 8 teams ahead of utah would you say is going to be bumped by the jazz?

LAL, so he scored more then kobe? did he play head to head with kobe? last i checked landry fields and toney douglas played the 2guard. and to further the hurt, dfish isnt exactly slowing anyone down these days. steve blake....see john walls defense.

minny... what to say about that team? rubio can pass the ball, but once again the whole team has suspect defense. i mean when darko is your defensive stopper, what else need be said.

the only thing keeping davis from taking the starting spot is himself. either his attitude, or his health, period. no way baron davis DOESNT take the starting spot unless he is still out injured, or he doesnt get himself into game shape, or he just has a piss poor attitude.

the knicks are a flavor of the week kind of team, any team with mike dantoni running the show is. before lin it was shumpert. who knows next week bibby might be running the show lol. mike dantoni has NO IDEA what he is doing and in his own words he is going to ride the hot hand until it dies.

@LFJeremy as a mater of fact NO people where not making the same statements about avery and kurt. both served their time, they both worked their way into the systems of teams. and to be honest if avery had not fallen into pop/robinsons lap his career would not even be mentioned. he was not ever a top PG, he was a serviceable pg with a great coach and a great player (players) to work with. he also had little to no competition for his position. all this is evident in the fact that he dropped from 7.5 to 5.3 APG when he went for SAS to GSW then back up to 8.2 when he came back. he then dropped to 6.8 when DR went down. then in 99-00 his APG began dropping for good.

@LFJeremy@JohnAbney what games have you been watching? lets see, 1st game vs NJ, terrible team. 2nd game utah bad team, 3rd game washington, terrible team, 4th game lakers, OK team, not great, not terrible, 5th game minny, see lakers on not quite as good.

as i said, lin MIGHT turn out to be an ok PG in the league, but i suspect he will end up at the end of the rotation and the hype will wear off. 5 years from now will there be a "wheres jeremy lin" documentary? maybe, in the 1 hit wonder section.but once again your buying into the hype that stern and his ilk are selling you. 10-15-20 games from now, when amare is 100%, melo is 100% and baron davis is running the show with lin as an after thought off the bench for 10 minutes i want you to think back to this conversation, because thats my prediction.
