Spurs will face Bucks shorthanded at guard

Written by Kyle Boenitz on .

The San Antonio Spurs have been playing without Kawhi Leonard and Stephen Jackson for a few games now and they’ve picked up the slack nicely, but it looks like things could be even thinner at the guard positions tonight.

Danny Green is dealing with a hamstring issue and Gary Neal has a sore left Achilles. After a light workout yesterday, it looks like Neal will play, but there’s no telling how much.

“It’s something that’s been around for about a week now. Just soreness,” said Neal. “It’s kind of to be expected when your minutes bump up the way they have. It’s nothing serious.”

Green was playing some small forward to cover for Leonard and Jackson, but it looks like Manu Ginobili and Boris Diaw will have to spend some time at the three position tonight.

It was also reported today that point guard Patty Mills will miss tonight’s game as well with an ankle injury. To add some depth at PG, the Spurs have recalled Cory Joseph from the D-League Austin Toros.

So for those keeping track at home, the Spurs will have Tony Parker, Ginobili, Nando De Colo, James Anderson, Joseph and a possibly limited Gary Neal. Hopefully they can still get a win against the 8-8 Bucks.

The minutes of Manu should be reduced. If he is not turning over the ball, the opposing team are either intercepting his passes or passes to him are intercpted. He had slowed down considerably. DeColo could fill in the minutes or even Anderson.
