Even before Tom Benson made the announcement that the Hornets would be re-branding themselves as the Pelicans, fans in Queen City have been longing for the Hornets name to be returned to the Queen City.
As of December 21, 2013, the folks in the Queen City will finally get their wish. The Charlotte Hornets will be returning to the NBA for the 2014-2015 season.
According to Pete Blackburn, of Yardbarker.com, the Charlotte Bobcats franchise revealed three new logos that the Hornets will use next season.
Bringing back the classic teal and purple color scheme was a great start.
Not a fan of how they copied the New Orleans Pelicans in having the mascot holding a basketball behind the Hornets word mark.
They would have been better off with an updated version of the original logo with the new mascot logo replacing the old hornet.
This logo is a cleaner take on the Georgia Tech Logo, but I like how the they made it look less cartoon like.
The mascot logo was a nice update to the original Hornets logo. Keeping the honeycomb design on the bottom was a nice touch. Kind of undecided them deciding to take the basketball out of the logo.
Overall the design was a good update to the original design. Would have liked to seem them bring back the original Primary logo back but as they say, you can’t go home again.
