Toros' Lloyd gives progress report on Adam Hanga

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

This summer, San Antonio Spurs draftee Adam Hanga spent a few weeks in San Antonio for a workout with the team to gauge his development and give him pointers on his continued improvement. But once the workout was over in San Antonio, it continued in Hungary as Austin Toros assistant coach Alex Lloyd accompanied Hanga to further Hanga's basketball development.

Alex, in an interview with Hungarian site BB1, spoke on his time with Hanga and his development and according to Lloyd, Hanga did a great job.

[We] tried to continue the work that we started in San Antonio. Try to develop Hanga, and help him be in better shape for NBA style. We worked very hard, and I have to say that Adam's done a fantastic job.

Special attention is given to each player. The coaches are working hard to help them and bring out the best in them. They watch for what would be best for them in their careers, and their own lives.

Lloyd's job with the Toros is player development and he will often be on the floor working with players, like he did with Hanga in San Antonio and in Hungary.

The Spurs choosing to invest so much in a player, when they haven't done so for others speaks to Hanga's transition to the NBA coming sooner rather than later. It's unlikely that Hanga would come stateside for next season, but next summer may be the perfect time to bring him over.

I think it is better to think BIG, we have some pieces for a center trade like Favors. Trade Blair+Bonner/Splitter+Joseph. or some one else for Big boy Favors.

A personal trainer, in a sense? Overseas?

This has been my favorite prospect overseas since we drafted him; I hope he's over here by next summer. The fact that he is getting this much attention kind of confirms my claims on his attitude and maturity level at such a young age (comparable to Kawhi's).

Great scouting. Bravo, Spurs.

Expect Manu/Duncan/SJ to retire in 2-3 seasons when their contracts expire... with Hanga taking Manu's place at SG. Hope he can be somewhere near as productive as Manu has been... Hanga looks good on film - and sounds like he looks good to many in the Spurs org.

If we luck out (they develop well)... in about 3-4 yrs we could field a lineup of Ryan Richards backed by Splitter, Davis Bertans, Kawhi, Hanga backing up Green, Nando and CJ backing up Tony.

Wouldn't mind having Mills and Neal still on the bench... plus 3-4 years to improve that lineup and backups with FA and the draft. The future looks bright!

@Ironwill71

I hope you're wrong about Manu. I see 5 more years in 'em.... I hope....

 @russman138  @Ironwill71 lol Manu would be 40 if he played 5 more years! That's a little ridiculous. I see Manu probably leaving with Tim if not a year afterwards.

 @russman138 Sorry guys... Manu has already made comments about not playing much longer because he wants to raise/be with his family/twin baby boys more. Admirable. I have to respect that. We'll see in a couple years if anything has changed.
