Report: Forward Tyler Wilkerson gets invite to Spurs veteran camp

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

Forward Tyler Wilkerson had a solid performance at the 2012 NBA Summer League for the San Antonio Spurs averaging 9.3 points, and 5.0 rebounds and it seems he caught the eyes of the Spurs coaching staff.

Wilkerson has turned down an offer to play for Spain of the ACB league and will take part in the Spurs veteran camp where he hopes to impress and land a spot on the bench.

Wilkerson is a 6-8, 240 lbs. forward out of Marshall. Add the fact the Spurs need size, he could make an impression with the team considering he shows a knack for rebounding and the desire to play in the NBA.

And although he won't be the next "Gary Neal" find, should Tyler not make the Spurs roster, he definitely could land with the Austin Toros as a way to hone his skill-set.

What do you think Spurs fans? Do you think Wilkerson has a good shot at making the team?

If he's a three and two position player, it's ok. If you're talking a front court rotation player, well I hope not.

6'8"? Man, Blatche is 6'11" and will probably play for just as cheap! Sign him to a 1 year so he is motivated to prove himself to the league, and we will have him off the books next year so we can sign a higher quality big man. If you really want to motivate him early make it a 1 year nonguaranteed contract so if he doesn't play well we can dump him!
