Popovich goes political, supports Obama

Written by Michael A. De Leon on .

Gregg PopovichWith  Barack Obama and Mitt Romney both raising funds for their campaigns and presidential debates just right around the corner in September, HoopsHype has compiled a list of NBA donors.

Both San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich and former Spur Doc Rivers have pledged to Obama's campaign, while a majority of the front office brass and owners around the league are supporting Romney.

All three of the NBA players have sided with Romney, and while there were 19 donors for Obama compared to Romney's 15, Romney ended up with almost 20,000 more than Obama.

While it's interesting to see sports and politics intertwine in the offseason, especially without a lockout to deal with and with most rosters pretty much set aside from a few adjustments and free agent additions before training camp.

Its sad that everyone seems to think one party is different from the other.  They may have different values but are both corrupt at the core.  They don't answer to us, they answer to whom whoever contributes the most to their "campaign" and are no longer are represtatives of any union.  Get the money out campaign financing and then our vote may matter a little more.

I do think Obama is of danger. I see the American dream going away which means our liberty is going away and it will be the death of us. Freedom of speech is fine, but the media and movies stars are all in a popularity contest willing to do anything for approval. Look at the President. His comments this election are a 180 from last and the lies are huge. Would you still go to your church if he was your pastor? Standards, content of character are lacking greatly yet he has fallowers. All special interest groups need to stand by so that the budget and health care can be stabilized then the extras can be purchased just like my house hold budget. My house is facing unemployment and my health care is 1/3 rd my income. I don't want my 5 kids to have this problem too. Do you? If this argument is illogical to you - who agree with Obama, then you have no soul of responsibility and you are no longer an American described by the constitution or even what your ancestors came to this county for. If you were a slave? I am sorry you were sold by your black countrymen, Arabs, and whites. If you know where you came from( all people) are you blessed to be here? Would you come here again if the choice was yours? Please, remember what it means to be American. And preserve the values and beliefs that brought you here. Think about the Olympics and the stories about how our people are free to be the best and are compared to the segregated countries where children put to work for there country and decided from there parents. ... I have writen my congressmen, paint my car with we the people , send encouragement to people that are standing up for civil rights, read 30 mins a day about the topics and issues. I dare you to do the same. This isn't a battle of democrtate vs republican.

Grow up people! If that's what Pop (or any coach or owner) believes in, so be it! His opinion is no less important than yours!

Well now there are two things that Pop is out of touch on: Politics and " job not finished." Let me give you some friendly advise Pop go see the movie 2016 Obama's America & get more aggressive in free agency! The movie is very factual in Obama's years before he became president, and if does not scare the heck out of you don't complain about no NBA if he gets re-elected. Why you ask?  There will be no one except the rich who can afford the ticket tol fill NBA arenas!

I think true Spurs fan know what I mean about being a lot more aggressive in shaping "OUR" team team for a Tim Duncan retirement in a few years.  Really disappointed citizen & Spurs fan!

You have a very simple approach to him just being a bb coach!  Wish it was that easy for me, but I see thosands of people who may be influenced by his actions!  Sorry you were sooo bothered that I expressed my personal feelings, but I believe obama is an evil person!

If you don't vote for him & I will cancel yours! Now we are even. Have a good day'

So sad...I would have thought that Pop would be the opposite. He hates being told what to do. He is a brilliant organizer. He doesn't gamble in his decisions and tells the truth straight away. He doesn't leek information, he just does his job with excience. I don't see a thing that is in common with the President. I hope it's just temporary insanity. His job will change soon enough if Obama is elected another four years. Can you engaging the government evening out the draft? So unamerican.
