Athletes are always looking for new ways to keep them in shape and give themselves that edge as they progress through their careers.
Various NFL players, most notably Clay Mathews and Brian Cushing, have trained with Randy Couture and Jay Glazer and their Xtreme Couture MMA Training.
As Tim Duncan’s time with the San Antonio Spurs is starting to come to an end, he is looking to perhaps prolong his NBA career and it appears boxing is being added to his training regiment during the offseason.
This summer the “Big Fundamental” is giving boxing a try and training with two-time world boxing champion Jesse James Leija.
Leija, tweeted the following picture after Duncan worked out with him and it is quite noticeable TD is looking leaner.
I hope this does Timmy's body some good. I wish Duncan pulls a Kareem/Karl Malone and averages around 22-23 points a game this coming season at the ripe age of 37.
@Spursfan66 Evidently no. In the article above the pictures, there is a sentence that says, "This summer the “Big Fundamental” is giving boxing a try and training with two-time world boxing champion Jesse James Leija."
It says he's giving it a try, so it's his first time doing. Hopefully it does him some good.
@ajd21@Spursfan66Ya, my reply was meant to point out to writer that I thought he was wrong about that..and I was correct as I found this "It was fitting that Leija would assume the task. As a local
featherweight and welterweight, he won two world championships. As a
promoter, he helped put 39,247 fans in the Alamodome for the Saul
“Canelo” Alvarez-Austin Trout fight in April. As a trainer, he helped
Tim Duncan lose 25 pounds in the off-season TWO YEARS AGO, and improved
the conditioning of Duncan’s teammates.Seen on nba.com http://www.nba.com/spurs/features/130603_rodriguez_leija
