Video: ESPN asks if Spurs will win the west
Written by Jeff Garcia on .
The San Antonio Spurs clinched the number one seed in the Western Conference playoffs last night by drubbing the Portland Trail Blazers (124-89) in their final home game.
And now that the road to the Western Conference Finals now goes through the Spurs, it might be safe to say San Antonio will have the best shot to win the West. Well not according to ESPN's Rob Parker.
As if owning an 8-game winning streak and locking up the West's best record wasn't enough, Parker still says the Spurs will not win the West and says the Thunder will be representing the West in the NBA Finals. Granted Parker made this statement before last night's Spurs-Blazers game but check out the video Spurs fans.
Well there you have it Spurs fans. Parker points to the Spurs getting ousted by the Grizzlies last season but this team is heading into the playoffs with a healthy squad and are firing on all cylinders. And what's with Parker pointing to TV ratings as if that is relevant reason the Spurs won't win a title?
What do you have to say Spurs fans?

Why does NOBODY talk about the OKC exit from the playoffs the past couple years????
They have been favorites but haven't been able to overcome Dirk or Kobe.. and soon Tim Duncan and Tony Parker.
OKC is a young team that has YET to prove their longevity for the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Timmy is polishing off his FOUR championship rings.
@russman138 Yeah.. Well OKC has been going deeper and deeper every year. That means they have to at least win the west this season. I don't think anyone was really disappointed about them as they had their best year ever last year.
Let's revisit this subject after the season is done. I've got a feeling this year Oklahome will really be sobbing.
typical statement from a New Yorker who has probably watched the Spurs once all season. I wouldn't read too much into it!
You guys might not be reading this article anymore, but I just wanted to say that this Rob Parker guy is a complete moron. He has called Hank Aaron, the greatest player in the history of baseball, a coward for not showing up to a baseball game where Bonds could have broken the record. This guy is a class A moron.
I'll tell you what's boring, Mr. Dreadlocks, your rap albums because I have never heard of you. Looks like I won't be listening to them, either.
I'm going crow hunting today so I'll have the ingredients for the pie I'll be sending to Rob Parker after the Finals.
It's funny how our team is an "old car". When it comes to stars on big city teams like Kobe, Pierce, Allen, Garnett, Nowitzki, Terry - these teams are never disrespected in this manner. And why would two sportsanalysts get into RATINGS when discussing team ability? I don't get it.
I used to watch all kinds of NBA games, then more and more spurs games, nowadays it's all Spurs for me. I tell you, the teamball the spurs play is alot more exciting to watch than seeing an occasional monster dunk.
Right now my only concern is Gary Neals point guard play. It seems the solution for him whenever he has gotten himself into trouble is to finish on his own and look frustrated. Disappointed that we won't be using Mills in the playoffs (it's evident isn't it?)
@JohanBeijer Im with you here Johan...
Patty Mills has proven he is an excellent point guard off the bench... and definitely better at the point than Gary,
I, too, am a little dumbfounded at Patty Mills' lack of play.
Well, hopefully after what we saw in this past Phoenix game, I would hope Pop will use Mills more.
@Emicris @JohanBeijer im not sold on mills. he had kobe numbers last night. you know 9-23, 3-8 from three. i think he shoots a little to much, especially with other scorers in the game (ie when he has played with manu)
it just seems he is trying to impress to much and once he settles in i think he will be solid (next season)
now splitter destroyed all last night in his 19 minutes lol.and gortat/lopez are supposed to be good defensive bigs. especially gortat.
@JohnAbney @Emicris @JohanBeijer But John... are you forgetting that he was the starting point guard? Without Gino, Parker and Timmy...
Also... 9 of 23 means he shot 40 percent.. not bad considering he fired 8 threes.
@JohnAbney @Emicris @JohanBeijer I'm just comparing Mills as a point guard to Gary Neal as a point guard. Gary shoots to much when he plays PG also - but he is not as quick nor as good with the ball.
I love Gary - but he is a pure SG in my opinion. Mills did, of course, try to get on the playoff roster last night - who would'nt? He has player option in his contract - i'd like him to stay and establish himself.
I can not find the video with Bowen, Parker and Skip on ESPN. Can somebody post it here, please? Thanks in advance.
I am a spurs fan from the PacmanLAND Philippines . Sure we cannot please everybody! It is better for the spurs to play under the radar and then make you shut your mouth and eat your words come playoff time.
There is a reason those guys don't have jobs where their decision making skills and opinions have any effect on reality...
Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum over there on the left hand side of the table have no clue about the game of basketball, why are they even on the show??? I don't even recognize them as former players or anything. What are their qualifications??? Sheesh. I mean, at least I know why the moderator is on the show, her assets are obvious, even though she doesn't have an intelligent thing to say.
I missed the part where you said Rob Parker, and so I thought the entire article was from stuff from Tony Parker, and I was like wow the Spurs are screwed if Tony feels this way haha. I don't really care about what announcers have to say; analysts are just about as stupid as anybody else. Like last year, there were like 3 ESPN announcers that predicted the Mariners (I'm from Seattle) to make it a round into the playoffs.
Wall-ay is a dimwit who says our Spurs are new parts in an old car and boring that he could care less if we win the Title. Well, well true Spurs fans are red blooded consumers too and that's bad PR on his part, oh wait ... he's a nobody who got famous around DC as a third rate Rapper who also now has a recording contract but that's where your gravy train stops homey. I'm from Virginia and never heard of your big talent. Wall-ay. Wall-E the Pixar Robot is more like you. Clearly , the fool is a casual NBA watcher and knows little to no NBA basketball.
Skip is the only credible person on here. Rob Parker and his sidekick are idiots who don't know what real basketball is. obviously these guys don't follow the spurs calling them boring. I usually don't care what analyst have to say about the spurs but if your gonna give opinions go by the current season not from last year.
I didnt watch the video, don't care to. That said, I'm sooooo tired of hearing about last years loss to the griz. Ugh!!! So tired. People act like this is even the same team. I mean 3 major pieces of that team are gone in mcdyess, hill and RJ. Manu doesn't have a broken arm and knock on wood is fully healthy, and Tim has the all mighty punisher knee brace setting him up to destroy! Forget the detractors, save the I told you so's for the river parade!
@JohnAbney not to mention, we added Leonard, Jackson, Diaw, and Mills, so add that (and with the rise of Green and with Splitter showing why he was the Spanish League Finals MVP), and it's really not the same team from last year.
that fool with the extensions kept saying that the playoffs are a whole different, level. Like the Spurs had never been to the playoffs. Those guys , not Skip, and even the moderator do not know what the hell they were talking about. Can not wait for the playoffs to start, and what the hell did the ratings have to do with us not winning?
They talked about it again this morning, and luckily this time, Bruce Bowen was there to debate instead of the unknown wannabe rapper. Bruce and Skip certainly made Rob Parker look like an idiot today.
And like I said , what does tv ratings have to do with sas winning a title have to do anything?
thanks skip for defending the spurs. those other guys like the crossover and dunk basketball. AND1 basketball. i dont give a damn if they think the spurs are boring. the city of san antonio will be going off and so will all the lonely spurs fans around the world cheering them on. GOSPURSGO. FUCK THOSE TWO GUYS WHO CALLED THE SPURS BORING.
Skip is the only one here who has a clue as to what he's talking about. These other guys obviously pay absolutely no attention to the Spurs.
@JohnCook the irony here is the comment skip is the only with a clue. Lol. But yeah as much as skip is out there when it comes to other sports, he does understand championship basketball, not just star basketball
