Nando De Colo ready for NBA

Written by Kyle Boenitz on .

Nando De ColoThe Spurs drafted Nando De Colo back in 2009, hoping their streak of success with foreign-born players would continue. Since then, he hasn’t been ready to make the leap to the NBA and he’s been playing for the Spanish League team Valencia.

This summer, his contract will be up and he says he may finally be ready to play in the NBA. For now, he’s focused on finishing out his season, but after that remains up in the air.

“It is normal that other clubs now talk to my agent that I am at the end of my contract,” De Colo said. “But I insist that I'm just thinking of the remainder of season. I'm at home in Valencia, I never said anything bad about the team or city. The NBA is still my ultimate goal. I look ready to leap. If I am not now, I will not ever. These years in Europe have helped me to grow.”

De Colo’s contract is up at the end of June and then we will get to see what his final decision is. He’s a very talented player that could provide even more depth for the Spurs at guard along with Parker and Patty Mills.

However, the Spurs already have Cory Joseph in Austin and they would likely look to see how he has progressed before thinking about De Colo, but De Colo will also have a chance to prove himself with the French National team during the Olympics this summer in London.

To have that kind of length and PG skills and good shooting he can play Manu's position in the future while operating the point if needed like Manu does sometimes. like Patty Mills but since he has raised interest from other clubs I would imagine at this point it wouldn't be a bad a idea to bring in DeColo to see if he can stick with the club and package Mills with another player to get a good big as rtesoro440 mentioned. I'd rather keep Mills over CJ but if he can bring good trade value I'm there. I've had enough Dejuan Blair. Maybe they can package him and Blair for somebody really good at that price. But who? And the search continues.

You have to also remember that De Colo can play SG as well which he might end up playing. At some time they're going to have look at a replacement for Ginobili, Manu may only have a few years left before he retires Nando could be that guy, especially if they don't keep James Anderson. The worst that could or should happen is him going to the Toro's and playing along side Cory Joseph,I think Joseph will turn out pretty good he's only 19-20 yrs old so he has a lot to learn TP can definitely help with that .But know one has mentioned anything about Ryan Richards,he and De Colo need to be on the summer league team and the Toro's imagine Joseph,De Colo,Richards in Austin the future of the spurs.

Joseph has the right height to play pg in the nba. With his exposure, he might be ready next year. That leaves 3 pgs in the roster. If the spurs add another, there would be 4. Well, eventually they may trade Mills for a big man maybe. This opens the door for deColo.

Corey Joseph was a wasted draft choice in my opinion. I thought maybe he'd come out and just play some stellar ball and we'd all see what RC saw.

But unfortunately, CJ has shown he is too young and not quite ready.

@russman138 I thought that the times we got to see him play he showed promise. In his limited time he almost always either got an assist or a bucket, and he plays good defense.

@russman138 I believe he's another stashing project by RC. He's much too young to play significant minutes and would probably be in the D-League the whole year if not for TJ Ford's injuries.

@CraigThomas Ur right  but I still would've taken Josh Selby

Ryan Richards just signed with a Georgian team in the Euroleague and stated that the Swiss team wasn't a good fit for him. He started off really good for the swiss team for the first 5 -7 games then for no reason they cut his minutes and let the other forward who's been with them forever take all his minutes. He left.

Seems Euroleague is cut throat. Any way the Georgian team signed him for the remainder of the season and their playoffs start May 3rd. He didn't say if the Spurs were asking about him or not. Remains to be seen after these playoffs.

The Spurs FO should just bring him to the Toros after he's done with the his Euro playoffs to see what they have. I don't want to wait 5 years to see if he's a bust or not. He's got skills I'd rather see him on a Toro court now to get this over with.

@SpurGuy  @russman138  @CraigThomas Agreed, I'm not asking for Richards until he can some kind of statement. It looks like he's playing against the local high school teams in all of his highlights. I'm extremely skeptical of Joseph, I hope RC keeps him stashed very far away, he needs a lot of time. Nando's at least got professional experience and has a bigger build.

@russman138  @CraigThomas Selby ain't doing squat for Memphis.  People are high on Richards when he hasn't done a damn thing anywhere.  Why anyone would think CJ would come in & play stellar after his 1 unimpressive year @ UT is beyond me.  RC knew he was drafting a project, that's usually what he drafts.
