Lorbek nominated to All-Euroleague team

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

Congratulations goes out to Erazem Lorbek for being nominated to the 2011-2012 All-Euroleague team.

Lorbek, who has been playing with FC Barcelona Regal in Spain for his stellar play this season. Check out what he has done to earn a nomination:

Erazem Lorbek has been all the over place until now, leading FC Barcelona Regal in scoring (13.8 ppg.), rebounding (4.7 rpg.), index (16.3 per game) and true shooting percentage (54.2%). Lorbek has helped Barcelona to get to the Final Four with the best record in the competition, losing just one of its 19 Euroleague games until now. He has also worked hard to help Barcelona become the best defensive team (61.5 ppg.) since the competition started in 2000 and earned regular season Game 7 co-MVP honors. Despite playing for a defensive-minded team, Lorbek is 10th in scoring and fifth in index this season. In his third season with Barcelona, Lorbek won the Euroleague title with his current club in 2010 and reached the title game with Fortitudo Bologna (2004) and CSKA Moscow (2009). It is Lorbek's third appearance in the All-Euroleague teams in the last two years - he was named to the 2008-09 and 2009-10 All-Euroleague Second Team. Lorbek was also the first player to win the Euroleague Rising Star trophy in 2004-05.

Lorbek, who was traded to the Spurs in the George Hill deal, might be coming to the NBA next season. According to Project Spurs' Paul Garcia and later confirmed by tubasket.com, Lorbek could be on his way to the Spurs this summer. If so, he could help the Spurs address their main weakness -- a legit center.

Also nominted are former NBA players Andrei Kirilenko, Nenad Kristic, and Juan Carlos Navarro.

It is reputed that lorbek is an offensive machine. Of course basketball game is counting the points shot. The spurs of late is becoming offensive minded. But shooters is a dime a dozen and signing a true defender comes priceless. I'd rather that that spurs trade some of their assets for a true 1st round big man, guys like zeller, jones 111, melo and sacre. Or, sign richards who is younger and can still learn from TD. If bonner has to go, sign davis bertans. There at least 3 players who could be traded and there remains 5 players needed to fill 15. So aside from 1 of the 4 mentioned, the spurs may draft mike scott, kris joseph and call richards, deColo and bertans.

I have heard he's a great defender (not sure whether that means he's a great shot blocker or not). I hope he comes over this summer. Not sure which Big men would have to go Blair or Bonner.

Another quality addition in the list of International talent that the Spurs front office have selected. They always seems to get it right when picking rising stars from overseas; Robertas Javtokas, Sergei Karaulov, Viktor Sanikidze, Nando de Colo, Ryan Richards, Dāvis Bertāns and Adam Hanga.

Not to mentioned of those who's rights were given to other teams; Luis Scola, Leandro Barbosa, Goran Dragic, Ian Mahinmi, Felipe Lopez, Georgios Printezis

I can only imagine that this list will go on
