Spurs vs. Suns: NBA 2k12 style
NBA 2K12 just came out this week and of course, gameplay footage isn’t hard to come by if you do a quick YouTube search. I watched a short clip of a game played between the San Antonio Spurs and Phoenix Suns. I don’t think the game captured the essence of the rivalry, but overall I was very impressed.
The thing that grabbed my attention off the bat was the commentary. I’ve always loved Kevin Harlan’s voice, and I easily associate him with NBA basketball. Paired with Steve Kerr, playing the game is actually like watching a game on TNT. They even throw it to Doris Burke for some sideline reporting. It’s a real NBA experience complete with insightful comments and stats.
Some quick hits on other things I liked about the game. I feel like they captured player tendencies and mannerisms well. I think they accurately portrayed the atmosphere of the AT&T Center. Also, I really like how you even get a little bit of player chatter from the floor.
One problem I have with the game is one I’ve always had with 5-on-5 basketball games. The movements just don’t seem fluid to me. It doesn’t look like a natural flow of guys playing basketball. But hey, that’s just my opinion. One other thing I don’t like is that the players almost look kind of comical. Channing Frye looks like Barack Obama, I don’t think I would even recognize Coach Pop if it weren’t for the context and there’s one part in the video where Alvin Gentry looks like he’s going to leap out of the game and stab me. I think we’re at a point in technology where we can make the characters look a little more realistic.
All things considered, I really like the look of the game. I don’t usually like to play the 2K series, I’m more of an NBA Jam guy myself, but I might give this one a shot.

WHat I don't get is how we have 4 championship teams and the legends team they pick for the spurs isn't one of them. I would love to have the 02-03 championship team to play with. Young Duncan, Robinson, TP,Claxton Ginobli, Kerr, Cpt, Jack, Malik Rose, Ferry, Smith. That team was loaded

i like it better than having clarke kelloge but kerr says some pretty harsh things about the spurs..hiding the fact they are a lot worse than what they were or something geez..i dont like how they gave tim duncan a low overall like 84 or something..players like rudy gay and andre iggadala ( or however you spell it) are apparently better, maybe i'm just really bias though
NBA 2k12 was solely created for the purpose of the lockout, that's why the rookies aren't in the game and you can't make a league online. 2K Sports took a step back in the graphic department this year focusing more on the game play and the flow of the game, I agree it should look more realistic but you can't have both apparently.
@TomTheSpursDudefrom what i've heard, though, that once the lockout is over (whenever it happens), they'll add the rookies via downloadable content.
@TomTheSpursDude good points. I never been a huge fans of sports vid games but this one is making me want to get it. Also, if you are going to use this on your facebook or any other post PS puts out, please link back.
First thing i did when I started my Association was to trade RJ. I was willing to take anything. The best I could get back in return was RJ and Novak for Hakim Warrick, Josh Childress and a first round draft pick. Starting anderson at the 3.

i read this article and saw this video, and 10 minutes later, I had already been to GameStop, bought this game, came home, unwrapped it, created my 2K account, and started playing it. :) This will be a good remedy for my temporary NBA withdrawal symptoms if the season were to be cancelled.
