Spurs, Rockets likely preseason scenario

Written by Paul Garcia on .

TDAs the new 66-game NBA season has yet to become available to the public, some preseason games have been unveiled. According to Paul Coro of AZCentral.com, the Phoenix Suns will play the Denver Nuggets in the two-game preseason.

The preseason for each NBA team will be one home-and-home set with a close neighbor. With the Los Angeles teams facing each other, the Suns' preseason opponent became Denver for two games on dates to be determined.

As you can see, games are being based on geography. If this is the case, then it's going to be safe to assume that the San Antonio Spurs will be facing the Houston Rockets as their preseason opponent since Houston is closer than Dallas. Should this be the case, then the Spurs would play one game at home and one game in Houston.

As of right now, the Rockets' three marquee players are Luis Scola, Kevin Martin, and newly acquired point guard Jonny Flynn but the Rockets are one of few teams who have cap room to sign a big named free agent like Nene or David West.

For Manu Ginobili and Luis Scola, they'll be freshly familiar with each other as they both just finished competing in the FIBA Americas tournament back in September after representing their country of Argentina.

Though you know all Spurs fans will want a crack at Dallas to remind them which NBA team rules Texas when it comes to championships.

the spurs need help. They need at least 2 pf/c. The free agency can supply the need. Retire mcdyess, dump jefferson and they have 3 vacancies. Try greg oden. The guy has been unlucky. Maybe silver and black may do the trick.

We don't have 8.8 Million or more to sign Oden (this is what portland wants to offer him). Even if we did.. maybe a good idea or maybe a bad one. A bit of a risk @rtesoro440

Maybe they end up playing Dallas somehow. Memphis plays OKC and Houston play N.O. Either way pre-season games are hardly ever interesting.

A 66 game season is long. I never realised the NBA teams played so many games.

@Charlotte74 Yeah, they're super long. Reg season is good because you get to see players mature/ develope their games. Even TP added a 3pt shot last year. Good to see that kind of stuff.

FA Players "could" help the Spurs in short term or long term.

Notice these are just some ideas regarding help from FA, not including trade.

Point Guards:

T.J. Ford (Unrestricted), = back-up or starting PG, ball-handler

Pooh Jeter (Unrestricted),= 3pt shooting, decent defense

Ronnie Price (Unrestricted),= defense

Ben Uzoh (Unrestricted), = defense, potential, coached under AJ last season, publicly admire the Spurs

Shooting Guards:

We are LOADED with SG, but

Chris Douglas-Roberts (Unrestricted) is intriguing to me. = Scoring, steady force attacking the basket, potential. Can swing between 3 and 4, great 4 option, could be competent like the old Stephen Jackson role.

Small Forwards:

Wilson Chandler(Unrestricted), = great offensive threat from perimeter, decent defense

Shane Battier (Unrestricted), = one of the best perimeter defender now in the NBA

Josh Howard (Unrestricted), = scoring punch and pace changing guy from the bench

Andrei Kirilenko (Unrestricted), = probably a sign N trade, can defend at 3 and 4 position, underrated passer, team first guy

Jamario Moon (Unrestricted), = good wing defender team could sign at the minimum, just in case of unexpect injuries

Power Forwards:

Troy Murphy (Unrestricted), = very good rebounder who can hit 3s, Bonner becomes expandable

Kenyon Martin (Unrestricted), = veteran who could care about winning championship more than money (He already has made A LOT) terrific enforcer to add in the paint if can stay away from injuries

Josh McRoberts (Unrestricted), = energic bench guy provide rebounding and defense, Blair is expandable

Chris Wilcox (Unrestricted), = a overrated bigman who finally focus on the game last season, could be a steal if signing him at minimum.

Centers:

Marc Gasol (Restricted), = The Grizz FO said keeping him along with Z-BO, Gay, Conley...which is certainly doubtful

Nene (Unrestricted), = The chances are little but a good try won't hurt

Tyson Chandler (Unrestricted), = Always should mass around with the Mavs a little

Erick Dampier (Unrestricted),= I know what you guys thinking, but he could be huge if he concentrate on defense/rebounding/winning

Jeff Foster (Unrestricted),= Won't worry about rebounding when TD is resting

Aaron Gray (Unrestricted),= His big body, toughness and 6 hard fouls will help especially in the West.

Kwame Brown (Unrestricted), = LOL. Despite being a draft bust haunting him for years, he could be very useful as a 12~15 minutes defensive role player.

@shawnthefreak might as well scratch Wilson Chandler and Kenyon Martin off the list since they will be stuck in China. as for big men, i'd like to see if we could get Nene, but doubt it. same with Gasol, but doubt it. i wouldn't mind giving Gray a chance for playing time and if we could get either McRoberts or Wilcox on the cheap, that would be a good move, IMO. and if we are looking for another backup PG, i'd like to see how Ford would do, and surprisingly, he's still only 28 years old. i've always thought he was a little older.
