Spurs GM R.C. Buford crashes into fence, arrested for DWI

According to KSAT.com, San Antonio Spurs GM R.C. Buford was arrested and charged for driving while intoxicated after crashing his car photo: nba.cominto a fence late last night in San Antonio.

Spurs general manager R.C. Buford was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after he crashed into a fence, San Antonio Police said.

A police spokesman confirmed Buford was arrested after crashing into the fence in the 500 block of N. Leona just west of downtown late Friday night.

Buford was taken to the hospital after the crash and was fine, however, he was then arrested by San Antonio Police. Buford did post bond and was released today according to the report.

This is not good for the Spurs especially since the franchise tries to promote a squeaky-clean image and Buford usually leads that public relations charge.

For this to happen to Buford is unfortunate but since he is a well-known front-office person throughout the NBA, it does come at a shock.

Although he does not have to address the media since this is a personal matter between him and his family, should he decide to make a statement, he should take a page out of his own book and handle this the way the Spurs did when former guard George Hill had his photo scandal - just nip it in the bud.

What do you have to say Spurs fans? Shocked to hear this news concerning Buford?

UPDATE:

The Spurs and Buford have issued the following statement regarding the incident:

RC Buford, president of sports franchises for Spurs Sports & Entertainment, was involved in a single car accident on Friday evening in San Antonio. The event involving Buford, who is a type 1 diabetic, was precipitated by a severe low blood sugar reaction. A San Antonio police officer responded to the scene and Buford was subsequently detained and charged with possession of an open container and a DUI. No injuries were caused by the accident.

“I take great pride in being a positive member of our community and deeply regret this incident,”  said Buford. “I apologize to our community, our fans and the entire Spurs family.”

I love our organization and totally appreciate what Buford brings to the table but this is seriously disappointing. I really don't like how they tried to cover up the incident: "(the event) ... was precipitated by a severe low blood sugar reaction". Who are they trying to fool. He was DRUNK. There is no way he can get out of having an open container in the vehicle. I would have rather seen him man up and apologize for his actions.

over the past four years, i have been extremely proud to work for this exceptional organization. needless to say, i'm was extremely disappointed to hear this especially given his prior history with alcohol. i will never lose my faith or stop supporting the Spurs, however this does not help i already felt betrayed and disillusioned from the NBA, without the Spurs i don't know what i'll do. i agree with Jeff here, it's good they're stepping up. @rtesoro440 i understand your comment, but comments like that will only inflame and sensationalize the situation.
