Spurs actively trying to bring Ryan Richards to the team?

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

According to laprovincia.es, the San Antonio Spurs and the Gran Canaria Basketball Club of the ACB League, have already begun initial communications to resolve the contract status with the Spurs 2010 NBA draftee Ryan Richards, which would allow him to play with the Spurs or their D-League affiliate Austin Toros:

Here is the English translation provided by a translator tool:

Gran Canaria Basketball Club and the San Antonio Spurs (NBA) have already established the first contacts to resolve the contractual status of Ryan Richards, English power forward current contract with the organization until June 2012 Claretian and in 2010 was elected to the Texas franchise in the post 49 of the draft.

The aim of the player, who joined the Grange in 2006 and that during the past five years has also gone through the discipline of the Canary Academy Basketball, Real Madrid, Dexia Mons-Hainaut (Belgium) and BBC Monthey (Switzerland), is to stay U.S. looking for a spot in the rotation of the Spurs or the staff of the Austin Toros, Team D-League franchise connected to San Antonio.

However, the report states that Richards is more than likely will return to his current team to continue to develop his game and hopefully join the Spurs or the Toros at a later time.

If the report is true, then this shows the Spurs are actively looking to get the 7'0" Richards accustomed to the Spurs system and fill their need for a big man. Something they severely lacked in the NBA playoffs versus the Memphis Grizzlies.

Stay tuned to Project Spurs for more details as they unfold.

He has a mean cross over and has quickness for a 7 footer and a nice perimeter shot to boot but he needs to work on his defense. Start off in the Toros camp to get some of that experience then let him play some minutes in the Silver and Black. Hope Pop doesn't sit him like Splitter. That was a waste. But on the bright side we all know what Splitter can do. With his free throws improving, great BBIQ, great Pick Roll guy and Blue collar defensive mentality the future looks bright with him and Richards as a front court duo. Just add a 3rd seasoned big on the FA market or trade for one and we should have a good core of bigs in the near future.

I'm skeptical as to whether or not he's ready defensively. I'm sure the Spurs know more than I do (which isn't hard)...

Maybe Tim could share some of his salary with him.

Get him over here A.S.A.P!!!!!!!!!!!! let him develop in the D-League that's fine at least he'll learn the spurs system.I hear he compares his game to Lamar Odom but Duncan can show him that ALL STAR post game what about Nano De Colo is he ready

they need to bring him in asap !!! he has a jumper that we can use off that screen and roll, and think about it, Tony P. was only 19 when he came in and he's doing good. this guy is on another level and for you to compare him to mahimi just shows you've never seen this guy play. Mark down my words " Ryan Richards is the one, Duncan will pass the Torch to !!!!! i believe in him that much, and if ryan richards reads this, show these people what i'm talking about !!!

@Joe Hernandez @Joey If they do bring him back, I would prefer he play in Austin for a full season before coming to SA. I think he can stand to use that experience.

in my opinion, we do need a big, but a proven one. ryan richards might be a good prospect or another mahimi. i think it's better to let him further develop his game over there and sign a proven big this year. we basically sat dejuan blair in the playoffs and richard jefferson was useless. i'd trade them both to get nene. but after seeing him rise up this season, i don't think denver is going to let him go. lol
