Ginobili injury update
Written by Jeff Garcia on .
The San Antonio Spurs (57-16) may have lost the game last night to the Memphis Grizzlies, 111-104, but the bigger concern is the health of the team.
Already shelved due to injury is Tim Duncan, now add Manu Ginobili to the list.
Ginobili suffered a left quadriceps contusion in last night's loss to Memphis and though is not serious, Ginobili cannot put his full weight on his leg and is in considerable pain. His status for tonight's game against Portland is in question.
That's two All-Stars for the Spurs dealing with injuries. Add the fact the Spurs' grip on the number one seed is now at four games with the Los Angeles Lakers currently on a seven game winning streak.
The playoffs are right around the corner, and this is the last thing the Spurs needed to deal with.
What do you think Spurs fans?
Health is more important above all else at this point of the season. Let's all the players will be healthy come playoff time.

i agree with you health is important but manu aint playing tonight and then we got boston the next game we could lose 5 games in a row but hopefully our bench steps up today but health is the most important thing.
By albert Escobar well the injury is not a good thing but i feel TD will be back by thursday vs celtics and manu as well the lakers will not catch up to us because they will lose atleast 3 games by the way there playing the number 1 seed should be ours lakers got mavs and spurs perty soon so the spurs just need to play hard and get healthy thats all it matters and bench players like tiago are benefiting from injurys so maybe we get anderson some playing time incase we need a shooter for the post season incase gary neal cools off kinda like novak to booner.
@Albert Escobar @XxSPURSxX @JohnAbney ok worse case scenario, say the spurs do drop out of 1st place and to 2nd place. Will it be that bad? This is a vet squad and as Pop says everyone has to win on the road sometime.
@JeffProjectSpurs @Albert Escobar @XxSPURSxX @JohnAbney Jeff we do have win on the road but i been seeing the spurs and we dont have the presence of veterans like robert horry and bret barry off the bench so it is harder since the big 3 is older and it will be bad to drop because i know we can upset 1 team but not 2 so its best the team comes in the 3 round or finals we beat dallas last year but we need to beat a team in the late rounds so it will be bad.!!
@JeffProjectSpurs @JohnAbney @LFJeremy @XxSPURSxX @carlos_vnzla @Troy28 @TD21 It will depend on if we need the win for 1 seed or to nock them down to 3 seed thats all it really boiles down too, it is best for them not to have many footage of our plays if we were to meet in the play offs.
@JohnAbney @LFJeremy @Albert Escobar @XxSPURSxX @carlos_vnzla @Troy28 @TD21 well the thing is Spurs cannot rely on the Lakers to lose games. They have to make sure THEY get it done. Oh and how important is that final game vs LA?
@JohnAbney @XxSPURSxX @Albert Escobar @LFJeremy Matt Hicks says rest them more. I say get the num 1 seed locked up and THEN sit every one down. I want to see a line up of Bonner, Novak, Green, Neal, and Splitter once the num 1 seed is ours. LOL
@JeffProjectSpurs @Albert Escobar @XxSPURSxX @JohnAbney spurs need 6 games if lakers have to win 7 games and us drop six for them to top us so spurs need 6 games and lakers can catch us but i read an article that said duncan could be back by april 1 or 3 somewere there and yes if we drop to 2 then we play mavs second round and lakers 3 round no home court advantage it is a vet squad the starting line up are all been in the finals richard mcdyess tony manu tim and bonner but the bench is not as proven so best thing is to have the home court for the bench to get confidence at home
@JeffProjectSpurs @XxSPURSxX there very physical and big we dont wanna get bang up so early okc will win and face us second round but it will go 6 games but we need home court cause either lakers or dallas 3 round and bulls not worried for finals we can beat them and bostons we need home court
@Albert Escobar @JeffProjectSpurs @XxSPURSxX well odds are memphis moves up to the 7 spot, so if the spurs fall to the 2 seed, that means they would face the griz (who always seem to injure one of our players), then potentially the mavs, both while holding home court, then the lakers on the road while the lakers would potentially have an easier road with most likely the hornets in the 1st round then okc in the second. not an easy out by any means but they are not dallas. if they did actually make it past the lakers, it could potentially mean they could face the bulls on the road, but MIGHT hold home court over the celtics, orlando or heat.
let me put it this way, IMHO if the spurs do not hold onto the 1 seed, they do not win the west. the task will be to tough.
@XxSPURSxX while winning them all would be great, winning 4 is all we need. i would have no issue with winning the 4 games and letting the reserves play out the last few games or starters play very minimum minutes.
@JohnAbney @XxSPURSxX maybe sit manu longer if td comes back vs celts? no need to push it with manu since he does have a history of injuries
@JeffProjectSpurs @XxSPURSxX i would love manu to get some extended rest, and that is what the 6 game lead was supposed to offer.
i have not heard anything about tim coming back, is there word he might REALLY be back by thursday?
i was looking at the numbers, the spurs NEED to win 6 games not 4 IF the lakers win out the rest of the season. i dont expect they do, i think they lose to the mavs thursday and then it will be up to the spurs to beat them to hold the tiebreaker. if we lose to them, then they hold the tiebreaker based on division record. last 9 games are going to be WILD.
Were ok expect ginobili to be back by maybe Thursday vs Celtics...I hope!! Duncan is close also!! It will be yet again Wild Wild West for the top 4 spots wait..... all standings could change by the end of the season.....
I just hope that everybody will be healthy for the Spurs in the post season. I still believe, Go Spurs Go!
This is a double black eye for the Spurs. Ginobili is injured and then another loss, if there is a positive thing that happened in this game is we know that George Hill can be depended upon once the playoff starts. 30 points for Hill! It's just sad he did not get enough help from the other Spurs.
I know this not a serious injury, but the Spurs must not rush their All Stars back. At this point staying healthy is more important than anything.

well the spurs have 9 games left, and to lose the 1 seed they have to lose 6 of those games. while not impossible, i dont think it will happen. unfortunately i think tim will be back early or manu will. the best we can hope for at this point is the hornets falling to the 8 seed. to be honest that would be a best case now with west gone. plus the TOUGH griz would play the lakers in the 1st round, making the lakers road much harder.
so hers to 4+ wins in the next 9 games!
@JohnAbney indeed. no one is talking about how much the grizz give SA issues. even without rudy gay. UGHHH
@JeffProjectSpurs @JohnAbney i agree jeff grizz give SA issues and the we need hornets to drop to SA first round then well go for OKC or DEN then MAVS or LAL it will be tough but we need some luck on our side
@JohnAbney @carlos_vnzla OK so the gap bw LAL and SA is down to 4 games. Add no TD and maybe no Manu tonight vs Blazers. I think LAL will get close like one or 2 games but not take the num 1 seed from SA
@JeffProjectSpurs @carlos_vnzla it is going to be tight. the spurs need to win 4 games, or lakers and bulls both lose 2. i dont see them both losing 2, BUT i can see the spurs winning 4-5 games of the last 9. they for sure have the toughest schedule of the teams in question.
memphis is a tough out for anyone, and i wanted the rockets in the 1st round but i think at this point the hornets are the easiest matchup in the playoffs and right now the lakers have them.
how tough would a griz, then denver/okc winner, then dallas or LA just to get out of the west. even with home court and healthy thats tough. we NEED the hornets in the 1st!
what do i think?
one word... SHIT! (was supposed to be another 4 letter word)
i dont know about other fans but im a bit worried. this late in the season, injuries of any type is not really what we need. Im still hopeful for speedy recoveries and we hang on to the top seed.
GO SPURS GO
