TEAM LEADERS

Points Rebounds Assists
SPURS Manu Ginobili 17.8 Tim Duncan 9.1 Tony Parker 6.5
DALLAS Dirk Nowitzki 23.3 Tyson Chandler 9.3 Jason Kidd 8.4

Dallas_logoThe San Antonio Spurs (54-13) have the NBA's best record but look vulnerable recently. The Spurs had three days off to make adjustments following Monday's 110-80 loss at Miami which was their worst loss in the regular season.

The Dallas Mavericks (48-20) will surely try their hardest to beat the Spurs with Dirk Nowitzki back in the lineup.

The Spurs have a 6 1/2-game lead over Dallas and the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference but have gone 3-2 over their last five outings.

The Mavericks have struggled recently as well. After losing four of six, including consecutive games to the Lakers and Portland, they trailed by 18 before beating the Golden State Warriors 112-106 last Wednesday. Nowitzki finished with 34 points and 13 rebounds in that game.

While San Antonio is 2-1 against Dallas this season, the Spurs lost the only game in which Nowitzki played. He scored 26 points in a 103-94 victory last November 26.

Defense has become a problem for the Spurs, who have given up 106 points per game in their last four, almost nine more than their season average.

The Mavericks lost to the Spurs in the first round of last year's playoffs with a healthy Nowitzki, but they've won the last four regular-season meetings when he's played. He averaged 28.0 points in those four victories.

Hit the jump to find out the keys to the game for the Spurs and Mavericks, and which team wins this game.

KEYS TO THE GAME

SPURS:

Offense -- The Spurs' balance offense and deep bench are some of the reasons for their success this season. Entering this game, five Spurs players are averaging double digits and their bench can provide solid offensive boost at any given night. It will be key for the Spurs to hit their outside shots to win this game.

Defense -- Nowitzki has always been a difficult matchup for the Spurs, this will be a good test for Antonio McDyess' individual defense and the Spurs team defense as a whole. They will have to defend the Mavericks' perimeter game as well. Besides Nowitzki, limiting Shawn Marion and Jason Terry will be key.

DALLAS:

Offense -- It's not a stretch to say that the Mavericks goes as far as Nowitzki goes. But it doesn't mean he don't get any help, likewise five Mavericks are averaging in double figures entering tonight's game.

Defense -- Limit Tim Duncan inside the paint, guard the Spurs' perimeter shooters and cover Ginobili, Parker, Hill and Jefferson's dribble penetrations.

INJURIES

Spurs -- None

Dallas -- Caron Butler - knee (out), Brendan Haywood - back (day-to-day), Peja Stojakovic - back, neck (day-to-day)

PREDICTION: The Spurs are coming off an embarrassing loss against the Heat while the Mavericks won their last game against the Warriors. This game will be a measuring stick for the Mavericks while the Spurs will try to prove everyone that they are good as their record suggest.

This will be a battle and might probably go into overtime. Expect a physical game, the team that can impose their will on defense will win it. Final score 103-99 with the Mavericks winning a close one.

Guys, I hope I'm not sending the wrong message, I love the Spurs to death and I want them to win this game badly. But with the way they are playing lately, I just don't see it. Having said that, I hope I'm wrong too! :) Go Spurs Go!

Thanks for the comments and reads everyone! Keep them coming!

This game will be critical for the Spurs, if they really want to get the number one seed in the playoffs they have to win this game to make things easier for them.

Robby, I think this game could go either way. I wouldn't be surprised if the Spurs loose this game and you have a good reason to believe the Mavs will pull this out but as a Spurs fan, my heart says the Spurs will win. I'm enjoying your game previews.

@JeffProjectSpurs @Tonyforlife true, Jeff, but it's not like the Spurs can't win in Dallas w/ Nowitzki. they did it in Game 2 of the playoffs last season. like Tonyforlife said, i won't be surprised if the Mavs win because in my opinion, they definitely need this game a lot more than our guys do, but with the 3 days rest and with Coach Pop making them work hard on defense on practice Wednesday, the Spurs won't go out without a fight and try to win this game. i think the Spurs can win this one tonight.

This is a tough game for the Spurs but if McDyess can play good defense on Nowitzki, I don't see any reason why the Spurs will loose this game. The Spurs got this!
