Longhorns guard Cory Joseph will be staying in the Lone Star State and will be trading in his burnt orange for the silver and black.
Joseph was projected to go midway through the second round and while UCLA's Malcolm Lee was available, the Spurs decided to look in their own backyard to address the need for a point guard after they traded George Hill for Kawhi Leonard earlier in the draft.
Joseph is a 6-3 combo guard with excellent speed. He averaged 10.4 points and 3.6 rebounds and three assists last season at Texas.
Joseph is more of a shoot-first guard, but is far from being the caliber that Hill was at the backup point guard spot.
look at buford's video on www.spurs.com. he makes it seem like he's wanted joseph all along. he also knows joseph through a close connection with the college. this was not an "EPIC fail" because we got a good big in erazem lorbek and ryan richards should be coming over soon. we got a guard because we needed to fill the gap that happened when we traded hill for our rj replacement. soto1ncrtol calm down, the spurs front office knows their job better than any of us and i'm sure they did what they did for good reason
leonard is a reeeally good pick and fits into the spurs need for good perimeter defense, rebounding, and not to mention lack of a consistent SF. hill was amazing and i am going to miss him tremendously (one of my favorite players) but they couldnt have him playing defense against SF anymore and seeing as no one was taking tony cuz of jeffersons annoyingly massive contract, they did the next best thing and traded hill :'(. but the result of all this has left me with three different directions the spurs could go
1. - our front office has officially gone crazy and is just jacking up ideas to see if any turn out good
2. - they have faith in having found a gem in cory joseph, have no more worries about the SF, SG or PG position anymore, and will now try to make another trade for a big man or somehow sign a free agent big man for cheap who will be enough to be a presence on the floor
3. - they have the faith and no more worries mentioned above and are sure that they didnt need to trade for or draft a big man because they will have ryan richards coming over
....in my opinion I seriously hope its number 3 because giving up hill will be highly disappointing if the spurs dont end up landing a big man in the end
we got a guy in bertans who we will not see for a long time i can't belive the big man position was not filled tonight you have to have BIGS didn't we learn anything from Dallas they won because they had a guy like Tyson Chandler you have to have servicable bigs to win
ok what is going on i assumed our biggest hole what A BIG MAN are you serious another gaurd i am happy about getting leornard who everyone is say was lottery talent but come one what about the big position this is and EPIC fail we are in serious trouble with no bigs
@JohnAbney And the conversation went like this.
RC: C'mon Pop let's get the guy you know the big one that's available at 29. I'll buy you a 50 year old bottle of Pinot?
Pop: Who said I drink Pinot? Hand me that box over there with that red alcohol in it. Uh no, I like the little guy.
