Spurs in active talks to move Tony Parker?

Written by Paul Garcia on .

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the San Antonio Spurs are in trade discussions with the Toronto Raptors, and Sacramento Kings to trade guard Tony Parker in order to get a higher draft pick in Thursday's NBA Draft.

The San Antonio Spurs are engaged in discussions about trading point guard Tony Parker to secure a high pick in Thursday’s draft, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Spurs have talked to teams in the lottery, including the Toronto Raptors and Sacramento Kings, who hold the fifth and seventh picks, respectively. The Kings are determined to get a frontline point guard, and have also talked with the Denver Nuggets about Raymond Felton.

It’s unclear who the Spurs would prefer to take if they acquired a high lottery pick.

If the Spurs were to trade Parker, George Hill could become their starting point guard. League sources said Hill also has drawn trade interest from teams willing to give the Spurs a pick near the back end of the lottery.

Let's not forget, Spurs GM R.C. Buford said building the team in the offseason would include trade options. And with Parker's comments to the French media, coupled with the heavy amount of guards the team has been working out leading up to the draft, one has to figure if this could be the end of the "Big 3" in San Antonio.

But if the Spurs are really looking to move up to address the need for a big man, they should look into Utah's Derrick Favors and their high draft pick. Also, UK's Enes Kanter might be off the board at picks five and seven.

Don't forget, Parker did sign a contract extension for 4-years, $50 million.

Project Spurs will keep you up to date on the latest discussions.

plan A: send TP to the Raptors for Ed Davis, Jerry Bayless, a future 1rd pick, cash

plan B: send TP, Blair to the Kings for Jason Thompson, Omri Casspi, Donte Green, a future 2rd pick

If the spurs even think about trading TP that would be the dumbest move in franchise history. You would have to put Chris Paul, Derron Williams, Dwight Howard in the convo before i even start to think about trading TP

Throw RJ into the trade with the Kings and bring back Udrih to back up hill! Anderson should start for defensive purposes and young legs. Casspi can come off the bench for scoring. Thompson would be the starting 4 who can jump.

I like the idea of bringing Favors, should be a future all star someday.

You kidding me!?!?!?! They should jump on the 7th or 5th pick and draft Bismack Biyombo with it. He's exactly what our team needs.

@Atom36 @shawnthefreak @Joey I like the idea of trading for size but I am not completely sold on Bismack. At the Eurocamp he stunk up the gym. If anything they can look at Tristan Thompson out of Texas. He is a power forward or forward Marcus Morris from Kansas.

i dont watch college basketball, but i hear its a weak daft...i think tp is a lot more valuable than just a high draft pick. i hope we get a draft player and an nba player trade for tp.

@Joey i agree, BUT the other teams cant just send the pick for parker, there has to be other players involved to make the money work. i am not sure how they asses the value of the pick in a trade but if they take the drafted players salary value as the value of the pick then a 5 or 7 pick is worth what 3 mil? there is still 10 mil worth of salary to be made up for. the spurs would (in theory) still have their 29th pick....... chad ford has Jan Vesely going at 5 but i dont know to much about him, the report says he is a "role player" on his euro team which to me doesnt sound lottery pick.

@JohnAbney @Joey Vesely is like T-Mac before T-Mac had a jump shot, or Andrei Kirilenko if that helps you at all. Also, he's about 6'11", which is incredible for a small forward. We should also remember that other pieces would be involved here. For the Kings, think of Omri Casspi and someone like Jason Thompson. If it's the Raptors (who I'd prefer), maybe you're getting #5, Andrea Bargnani and Jerryd Bayless for Parker and DeJuan Blair. I think the Spurs are also hoping Enes Kanter is there at #5. Kanter would be a risk, but could end up being the best player in the draft.
