The whirlwind of trade rumors involving San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker continue this time involving the Utah Jazz.
According to SI.com, the Jazz reportedly offered Devin Harris and their No. 12 pick for Parker but once again the deal died due to the Spurs wanting to add Richard Jefferson in the deal.
With another report mentioning Jefferson in the mix, you got to start wondering if this is more about getting rid of Jefferson's hefty contract.
In a weak draft, Parker is worth more than just a pick and some toss-in player not at his caliber - see the reported Portland Trail Blazer deal involving Andre Miller. Also, if any of these reports are true and the Spurs do want to ship Parker off to move up in the draft, Jefferson and his contract is not an appealing piece to take if you are another NBA team looking to deal with San Antonio. His enormous contract, and lackluster play the past two season just make him one unattractive trade chip.
What are your thought Spurs fans on this latest reported deal that fell through?
If RJ is still a decent player, the difference in salary between someone similar and RJ is maybe $3-4k. Thats the real level of the mistake. Thats' only relevant because the teams has no cap room. RJ can still play. He made 43% of his 3's, rebounded , palyed ok defense. The issue isn't RJ, to me. It is more about cap room to sign a free agent or 2. Bad contracts are normal. Every team overpiad for a few guys. Look at Utah !
the thing that really gets me, i cant believe pop and rc didnt see this issue when they resigned him in the 1st place. jefferson must have really sold himself to pop over the summer and pop must feel like an idiot. honestly i am not as down on RJ as most. looking at his numbers and the "other things" he did besides score he seemed to be one of the more consistent players on the team. he was never meant to be the leading scorer, or even the 2-3 leading scorer, his rebounding was pretty nice, and his defense while not bowenesk, was not steven nash either. it does seem like trading parker is not about moving up as much as moving out, moving out RJ that is. parker is just the sweetener in that brown mess that is the RJ tea.
what will happen if we just cut him, how much do we owe him ? but man jefferson is a good player but i just don't think it worked out for us, and these past couple years just don't make him look good for any trade. jefferson for stephen jackson !!! get it done r.c. if possible haha
@Joe Hernandez I like the jackson move but it comes down to RJ's massive contract. No team wants that craziness. He has a PLAYER'S option at over 11 mill in the final yr.
