After losing to Portugal on Thursday in the European Under-20 Championships in Sarajevo, San Antonio Spurs draftee Ryan Richards and Great Britain suffered back-to-back losses Friday evening as they fell 72 to 68 to Finland.
Richards led Great Britain, but his valiant effort wasn't enough reports HoopsFix.com.
Despite a huge game from Ryan Richards, who finished with 28 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 blocked shots, GB could do little to stop Finland’s guard penetration and once again struggled with turnovers as they fell to their second loss in as many days.
After the game, Richards' head coach spoke of how proud he was of his team and Richards' play.
“I salute Ryan’s performance, not just for his points, but he listened to what we said after Thursday’s game. We’re still in with a chance of going through to the quarter-finals.”
With the loss, Great Britain will not be able to play in the next round of the Championships. The team will play Luxembourg today for a chance to get to the quarter finals.
i posted a comment with a video yesterday and the guy coaching him is from the toros!!..maybe something has already started were unaware of. there is one video that goes for over 14 minutes and he talkes about himself thats how i know, plus hes wearing a toros basketball shirt...great success
This is an addendum to an earlier comment. Is it possible NOW for r. richards to play for the austin el toros during the lockout? The el toros i think play along the same system as the spurs. If so, then he will be familiar with their system by the time lockout is lifted. What about it Mr. Buford/ coach Pop?.
@rtesoro440 I'll do some homework to see if overseas drafted player's can come straight to the D-League during the NBA lockout. If I get detailed correct information, I'll write a whole post on it.
@24writer The d-league does open until november, I think. Are their players not practicing today? If so, r. richards could participate in their drills. The problem could richard's curent contract with a euro team which the spurs has to buyout and of course, how much the spurs will pay him while training with the el toros. Thanks.
r. richards has all the signs that he is ready for the next level - nba. At his age, he NOW can absorb the spur's system. Mgnt should NOW leave no effort to sign him.
i found what seems to be hundreds of videos of him on youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIgPl21AheI&feature=related , this one is good and the first suggestion that goes for 6:37also.. i hate the look of his shot and free through and i suspect so will chip but he looks like he goes alright..i want him in the side though )
no one really cares about GB's national team, onnly thing that matters is this guy, and I think hes gonna be great for Spurs
