The Brazilian Basketball Confederation will pay the insurance for San Antonio Spurs' Tiago Splitter for the upcoming Olympic qualifying tournament in Argentina reports globoesporte.com.
With the NBA lockout in full swing, insurance issues have come up for foreign NBA players hoping to play for their home countries over the summer. Case in point, Spurs' Tony Parker who recently said he will not play for France should he not get insured.
However, it would appear Splitter is in the clear and will be taking part in three friendly exhibition games for Brazil when they face Mexico twice, and Team USA made up of college players leading up to the tournament in Argentina.
Cleveland Cavaliers' Anderson Varejao will sit out exhibition games as he is still recovering from his ankle injury and Toronto Raptors' Leandro Barbosa has been waived due to personal and contractual issues.
Thoughts Spurs fans? How do you feel about Splitter playing this summer?
Tiago needs work as "The Man"...he is too nice and complimentary basketball wise. Too much like a R. Jefferson. He needs to command his position and the ball and be more aggressive and assertive as a leader. We didnt bring Tiago to San Antonio to be a Fabricio 2.0 as someone coined (no offense Fab! ur awesome!!!). Go Tiago and Brazil!!! I'm American, but selfishly want Tiago to do really well!
Pop won't let him while Timmy's still here. It's stupid but that's Pop. If I were Pop I would let spltter loose and let Timmy play PF at the same time.
Give him all the minutes he wants. He'll be better for it. And I would take the risk just to get him ready for shortened season if there's one.
