Spurs given a slim chance to win it all

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

Despite owning the NBA's best record (32-6), the San Antonio Spurs were only given a 1% chance to win their fifth NBA title according to 157 NBA players in a poll conducted by Sports Illustrated.

The Los Angeles Lakers garnered 69% of the votes.

The poll was conducted during the month of December where the Spurs went 13-2 while the Lakers were 10-5 which included a loss to the Spurs.

Look, I get the Lakers are the reigning NBA champions but this Lakers team has been dealing with internal turmoil, dealing with injuries, Kobe Bryant dealing with a bothersome knee, and have the huge task at making it back to the Finals for a third straight season. It will not be easy for them.

But you know what? This is fine. Let the Spurs continue to remain under-the-radar. This is just more locker-room material for the team. Come playoff time and the Spurs are marching their way to the NBA Finals, I'm sure the 157 players who voted might ask for a re-vote.

What are your thoughts Spurs fans? I know you want to sound off on this.

I'm really tired of teams that sandbag all through the first year-end of the season, then 'rebound' to play all-out ball when it comes to the new year. Play like athletes, not playas, not actahs.

People can say what they want to say about the Spurs, but I think we have a legitimate chance to win the title this year!

Does anybody know what odds the bookies in Vegas are selling? If I were a betting woman, which I'm not, this might be the time to get out the checkbook and lay down some serious Bucks. Oh, wait. We did lay down some serious Bucks. Last night, 94-87, IIRC.

Spurs are 33-6. Best record ever at this point in the season. All the Lakers bandwagoners fail to see that, very soon, the stars in their eyes will have to go 100% without a loss, just to get a wildcard spot!

I don't care about this poll, all I know is the Spurs have a good chance of winning it all this season.

since 1982 lakers have faced spurs 10 times in the playoff. winning seven times and holding 30-17 overlall edge in game. the lakers are 3-0 aganist spurs in western confrence final, winning 12 of 14 games playes. i agree spurs are good but the real season start in march, april, lakers have size advantge. celtics find out hard way size do matter, rebound.

well, i'm sure if this was asked now, i think the percent would be a little bit different, but i could care less. the Spurs still have a shot at the title, regardless of percentage. GO SPURS GO!!!

Whether they win or lose, Lakers fans will destroy property. If that's sexy, they can keep it!

Even if I weren't a Spurs fan, I always thought it was boring for the same teams to win every year. That's also true for football. I was thrilled when the Saints won last year.

SPuRs never get any respect from anyone. They are the silent warriors. Winning it all is more important than media talk, other fans' voting. Go SPuRs Go!!!!

players are like fans they go with the superficial, sexy pick. By the way the Lakers are trying to get back to the finals for the fourth time--they're trying to WIN for the third time.

@koryb again, such unclassiness. the Spurs usually do well after the All-Star break, so they'll be fine. you need to stop dreaming about a Lakers' 3-peat because it has not happen yet, and there's a definite chance it could not happen this year, so again i say, learn to speak some English, show some respect, and never come back here on this forum.

San antonio spurs never could do back to back champship, it take toll on body and every nba team gunning for lakers so player take it easy. playoff game is different ball game and lakers have clear height advantage and physical. so i say laker beat spurs 4-2

@koryb sigh, a unclassy Laker fan who can't show respect, and thinks he can get away with writing crap on a forum he doesn't belong in. such a shame. and of course the playoffs are a different ball game, and the Spurs have known that, since they have the experience. who cares if they didn't win back-to-back. the fact is the Spurs still have 4 titles. listen, why don't you learn how to speak English correctly, show some respect, and never come back to this forum, unless you want to get embarrassed by a classy Spurs fan because you will always lose a smack talk here. sorry, but it's the truth.

@koryb like when the spurs made your kobe cry. dont forget who ended your three in a row last time and made kobe and shaq go there own ways. Also while the spurs were still in the playoffs and kobe was complaining about leaving your 30% unemployment city LA .......... the spurs were still in the playoffs . i wonder who sucked off who to get gasol. the fans in LA booooooood there ass off the stage the other night when they lost to memphis. for the city of san antonio and its small market to win 50 + for twelve season in a row and made the playoffs everytime.
