Here is some locker room material for the San Antonio Spurs' bench courtesy of Dallas Mavericks' guard Jason Terry.
Terry is convinced that the Mavericks' bench is "second to none,'' but he doesn't feel the reserves get the credit that they are due.
"When we get to the Finals and win it all, then everybody will realize what we mean to this team,'' he said. (SportsDayDFW)
The Mavericks are second in the Southwest Division to the Spurs with a record of 38-16 to the Spurs' NBA leading record 46-9 and the Spurs' bench has a lot to do with that.
Looking at the Spurs' main players off the bench you have Gary Neal who averages 8.7 points, George Hill at 11.2 points, Matt Bonner with 7.4 points, Antonio McDyess with 5.1 points and 5.2 rebounds. Let's not forget, Manu Ginobili and his 17.9 points per game is perfectly fine coming off the bench if need be.
Granted Terry is averaging 15.9 points off the bench for Dallas and making a strong case for Sixth Man of the Year but the Mavericks will need more than just him coming off the bench if they want to make it to the Finals.
However, I say let him yap all he wants.
The Spurs dismissed the Mavericks from the playoffs last season and I'm sure should these two teams meet yet again, history will repeat itself. Hopefully the Spurs' bench will have a lot to do with that dismissal.
Very well said @mdeleon Spurs are class act players unlike that Terry guy!
But the Spurs have FOUR NBA CHAMPIONSHIPS before that. And what do Terry and the Mavericks have? LOL!
Right, Spurs dismissed the Mavs last year..and then what happened? Oh, it was the last time they won again in post season.
And they got dismissed the year before that by.............
Okay, just checking.
This is what happens to losers, because they never win a title they will do everything in their power to get noticed. Jason Terry is a loser and a punk!
Terry is really an aroggant person and player he can't wait for other people to tell him how he has improved.
@Kellie @Daniel07 Personally I don't hate Terry or Mavs fans. It's just too hard to hate on people that constantly make themselves look like idiots. Shame on his teammates for not saving him from utter humilation once again. Shame on Terry for opening his mouth and setting off a chain reaction that inspires every mavs fans to shoot off their mouths and make themselves look just as ridiculous as he does. Poor little mavs fans. But you have to admire Terry's courage. It takes a lot to stand in front of those cameras and talk, knowing full well that whatever is coming out of your mouth is complete and utter BS!
@Kellie @Daniel07 I think the difference is you'll never see a Spurs player tooting his own horn like Terry does and talking about how he's the best or the bench is the best. He's done it twice thhis year for sure. You're an athlete and a competitor and it's fine to be confident, but let everyone else say how great you are and prove it, don't go sounding like a fool talking about how great you are.
@Daniel07 my point was everyone is rightfully arrogant, douche bag. That's the point of playing...believing you can win. And the Spurs are arrogant but are coming off a sweep. Like you can't win ONE game on Phoenix? It's Phoenix though.......
I understand why yall hate Terry though. And we're okay with it. Carry on... :)
@Kellie Wow! Even their fans like to run their mouths. The way I remember it...the 7th seeded Spurs overachieved by ousting the only western conf. team, 2nd seed btw, that was supposed to challenge LA. Guess that didn't work out for them did it?
@Kellie Terry has a history at going at the mouth. He has even gone as far as to say it's personal w/ him when it comes to the Spurs.
