It was the kind of game expected between the two top teams in the league, down-the-wire finish, last second game winning basket.

Antonio McDyess was at the right place at the right time, tipping in Tim Duncan's missed jump shot right before the buzzer as the San Antonio Spurs survived a late Los Angeles Lakers rally winning the game 89-88.

Here are some of the numbers that stood out in this Spurs' exciting win.

81.8 - The Lakers shot fairly well from the foul line making 18-22 (81.8%) free throws. The Spurs on the other hand made 13-17 (76.5%) of their foul shots.

44 - Los Angeles won the battle of the boards, outrebounding San Antonio 44-38.

42 - The Lakers dominated the inside game, outscoring the Spurs 42-32. They also shot better from the field connecting on 34-80 (42.5%) field goal shots while the Spurs hit 35-85 (41.2%) of their shots from the floor.

24 - The Lakers shared the ball better, dishing 24 assists compared to the Spurs' 20.

21Tony Parker had a game-high 21 points for the Spurs and added four rebounds, two assists and one steal.

19Pau Gasol led the Lakers with 19 points, seven rebounds and two assists.

18 - Richard Jefferson added 18 points for San Antonio, 12 coming in the first half.

16 -
The Spurs held Kobe Bryant to just 16 points on 5-18 shooting from the field. Lamar Odom chipped in 16 points, six rebounds and three rebounds off the Lakers' bench. The Spurs outscored the Lakers on fast break points 16-11.

14
 - San Antonio's perimeter defense was solid once again, holding the Lakers to just 2-14 (14.3%) from beyond the arc, while making 6-16 (37.5%) of their 3-point attempts.

10 - Both committed only 10 turnovers each for the entire game. Bryant had 10 assists and Andrew Bynum had 10 points and 10 boards for the Lakers.

8 - Duncan had eight points, eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Likewise, Antonio McDyess had eight points and eight boards (six offensive) and made the winning tip-in basket. George Hill added eight points off the Spurs' bench.

Rookie Watch:
Neal had six points and three rebounds in 15 minutes of action, Tiago Splitter had two rebounds in four minutes, James Anderson did not play.

Game Notes: San Antonio's largest lead was eight, the Lakers seven. There are nine lead changes in the game and was tied seven times. Matt Bonner missed his ninth straight game with a knee injury. Neal beat the buzzer in the first quarter with an acrobatic quick release from the baseline after grabbing a loose ball.

What's Next? The Spurs will visit the Sacramento Kings at the ARCO Arena on a second night of back-to-backs.

The game was so exciting and the finish was amazing, but I think the Spurs actually won the game because of goo defense my favorite line: 16 - The Spurs held Kobe Bryant to just 16 points on 5-18 shooting from the field. Kobe missed 13 field goals and Manu was mainly responsible for it. Have to him props with the kind of defense he made against Kobe.

That was huge play by McDyess, I'm glad he's a Spur. This says it all " Antonio McDyess had eight points and eight boards (six offensive) and made the winning tip-in basket"

@Robby_Lim me too I'm happy with this win but I worried that we might be complacent against the Kings. I hope I'm wrong.

Yes, great game and great win on the road. The Lakers gave their shot on the Spurs but it was not enough, now I feel better on this rodeo trip. Here's to hoping they won't have a letdown versus Sacramento. Thanks all for dropping by and for the comments and reads. Keep them coming!

Close game, both teams played good defense. It came down to the final shot, I'm glad the Spurs came out on top.

I like how the Spurs are defending the perimeter, they have done a nice job on it the past couple of games. Go Spurs Go!

For a second I thought Duncan's basket with over a minutes and the Spurs leading 87-83 will seal the deal. Odom's 3-point shot was big, Gasol made his free throws after McDyess fouled him, by my oh my! Dice saved the best for last it maybe a lucky bounce but he made one of his biggest play as a Spur! What a thrilling finish!

The Spurs were outrebounded in this game but they did get the rebounds when in counts the most. McDyess saved the day!
