Popovich and Duncan nearing milestones

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

San Antonio Spurs' coach Gregg Popovich and forward Tim Duncan are nearing personal milestones in their illustrious NBA careers.

Currently, Popovich is third on the all-time list of most coaching victories with one team trailing Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan who has 1,126 wins and Boston Celtics' former coach Red Auerbach who recorded 795 wins.

With the win against the Sacramento Kings, Popovich is now sitting at 778 wins moving him within 18 more victories of surpassing Auerbach for second place.

As for Duncan, he currently is ranked 11th on the NBA career blocked shots list with 2,331. Should he record 26 more blocked shots this season, he will move into the top 10 and pass former NBA player Alonzo Mourning who recorded 2,356 blocked shots.

I've rarely seen teams play defense like the Spurs under the Popovich system, making superstar players look average, get to loose balls, contest shots, unselfish basketball, no easy baskets, weak side D. Tim Duncan is the best shotblocker and best rebounder I've seen since five-o. Although Bruce Bowen deserves some credit too for being Pop's iron man on the defensive end for so long. Like Dave Timmy's a Spur 4 life. That's what fans love, loyalty to a team and a man with a system. Go for 5 SPURS !!!

I think they will get it this season! TD should get to top 10 in shock blocks!
