Reggie Williams' list doesn't include Spurs

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

As the San Antonio Spurs wait to hear the decision from free agent Josh Howard on where he will be playing during this shortened season, one this is for sure, if the Spurs were looking at small forward Reggie Williams as a backup plan, they will have to look elsewhere.

According to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, Williams short list doesn't include San Antonio.
projectspursrwilliamsThe Spurs were reportedly looking at Williams as a potential replacement should Richard Jefferson be a victim of the team's amnesty clause.

And if you are keeping score, so far Caron Butler, Grant Hill and Vince Carter all have passed on possibly joining the Spurs. So if Howard decides not to wear the black and silver this upcoming season, perhaps Jefferson will be staying on with the team seeing how he is the only viable option left.

What do you have to say Spurs fans? Will you be OK with RJ staying on with the team should the Spurs not find a suitable replacement?

At this point, how could you not stay with RJ unless a trade with him for a big-man were packaged? Obviously, that doesn't look like it's going to happen so why downgrade at the SF position to either pot-smoking, loudmouth who has just come off of knee surgury or a young-gun who loves to shoot and not play defense? Unless Jefferson is traded for something of value, why even bother amnestying him? Besides, next year we can still amnesty him and get TD's contract off of the books for a lucrative free agency. RJ is the best available from what's left and hopefully Kawhi can either make him compete for his spot and improve, or slowly force RJ down onto the bench.

With what's left, keeping jefferson is the best and safest bet we have. He's an adequete player that never fit into the system offensively but has been trying and is actually alright on defense. He looked so bad last year cause we never really had a good enougg back up, his contract is bad, and he had to carry all the sf weight for a long time. Now, even if we were to amnesty him, we wouldn't have enough salary cap room to sign a meaningful big and we'd be left without a reliable, experienced sf. So leave jefferson for a year, especially since we have two good enough back ups so he wont be left with the burden and expectations of being our only sf and if he doesn't pan out again by next summer or leonard surpasses him or something then amnesty him then when its his money and TDs coming off the books so we'd have the chance to land a meaningful big next year

At this point, I would consider even RJ over Josh Howard. The Spurs system is complicated and make take Josh Howard a while to catch on. We might as well wait this season and see if RJ pans out. If not we can always use the amnesty on him next year when we have more salary since TD's contract will be off the books. This is can make us a major player in next year's free agency market. Plus TD isn't going anywhere, sure he isn't gonna be in great shape, but we expected that this year. So we may as well stay comfortable with RJ for the short term.

Crap, also why does it make sence to amensty RJ, and PAY HIM, so that we can get Josh Howard(refered to as J-HO for the rest of this post). Is it really worth it to pay RJ to leave and then bring in UNPOLITICLYCORRECT J-HO also known as Pot-MAKEr420, IN AT BASICLY THE SAME PRICE????? I have nothing against weed and am probbably gonna have to start smoking it just to get through this ordeal.

Why are players shy away the spurs? They are paying less money. But who is reggie williams? or J.Howard? The spurs planned to use rjefferson in the place of bowen. Will Williams or howard fit the tab? Stop looking for a sf and use what you have spurs! Green and Leonard are solid backup sf. If you must, look for a big man. Splitter is not good enough so that leaves a gaping hole on the interior. Last chance, Fesenko or nothing. He is the only one left, unless Kaman is coming abroad. What about it spurs?

really reggie williams instead of richard jefferson? Will this make the team better? In Bufford we Trust is gonna take a huge hit if we make this mistake. Here's my big ? for the future right now. I read an article that claims that Leonard is the 4 of the future. His length makes up for his height right? if that is true does that mean that leonard is the 4 of the future and bertans is the 3 of the future? 3 years from now we have a lineup like Nando, Hanga, BERTANS, LEONARD, SPLITTER/RENOYLDS?(12345)?????? It would be interesting to see 6'10" bertans at the 3 and 6'7" leonard at the 4 because of the way they play defence. I was all about amnestying RJ before i saw that the reduced cap caused the crazyness of overpaying a weak free agent market this year. I don't know whats worse, GS paying 6-7 mil a year for Kwami brown or KNEEKNEE making a max contract. Although, and this will only make sence to the die hards, I love an offseason where teams are at least trying to get better.

@TylerCameron Williams is a scorer as he proved with GSW last season but lacks on the defensive end. The SAS did look into adding him but I think he would not have fit in the system. He has matador defense.
