Kawhi Leonard officially a Spur

The San Antonio Spurs have announced they have signed rookie Kawhi Leonard.
The San Antonio Spurs today announced that they have signed Kawhi Leonard. The Silver and Black obtained the draft rights to Leonard along with David Bertans and Erazem Lorbek in a 2011 draft night trade with Indiana Pacers in exchange for George Hill. Per club policy details of the contract were not released.
The small forward out of San Diego State is best known for his stellar defense and relentless energy on the court. Despite the Spurs searching for a small forward, he, along with James Anderson, will be manning the small forward spot should the Spurs waive Richard Jefferson through their amnesty clause.
why did spurs get cory joseph in the first round if their not even taking him to training camp...i really wanted them to sign justin harper who went in the second round and will be playing for orlando..the kid is only 69 and isnt very good defensively but has a very complete offensive game and wouldve contributed no doubt...beter than wasting a first round pick
most of the comments are irrelevant to the article. kawhi, congrats. may the stars in the sky shine their light on this upcoming new generation of spurs players to keep the post-duncan spurs legacy going. our management is so superb it's impossible to imagine us not being able to qualify for the playoffs. everyone knows the spurs rarely make mistakes and i'm proud to be a fan of such an ideal franchise. let's go after nene!
NBA teams will be allowed to pay $500,000 to buy players out of deals in China. What it means is while Smith and Chandler have the obligations of fulfilling their contract, NBA teams can assist in a buyout if they offer $500,000 to their China teams – of course the teams would have to agree to the buyout.
Yep, that is true. But I don't think the Spurs would want to waste another $500,000. Plus, would Wilson Chandler even consider signing with the Spurs after they buy out his contract with China? I mean, wouldn't Chandler be a free agent if he was bought out from China?
if mcdyess retires and we use the amnesty on jefferson. how much money would we be able to give kaman? or can we get kaman without having to use the amnesty.
No, the only way we can get Kaman is though a trade, unless the Clippers use the amnesty on him. But we have to wait and see what the Clippers do with DeAndre Jordan first.
what happen to troy murphy ?
i remember watching him dominate against us when he was with gs.
@mjs2377 I think we have a shot signing Murphy as long as the FO want him. The Celtics won't have much cap space than we do. So we have equal chances. Since Murphy wasn't happy both his role and playing time last season in Boston I guess he won't mind going to new places.
I have no idea. He was with the Celtics last season, but I don't know if they still have him anymore. If he is available, that would be a good choice to look at. But I don't know how much it would cost to get him.
Any news on mcdyess? The spurs are mum about him. The spurs need a big, young, tall player to man the interior. Is mcdyess being keep under wraps for a trade?
Guys, Wilson Chandler is stuck in China and we would have to wait until March if we wanted to sign him.
And yes, we all know we need another big, but remember, this is the Spurs we're talking about here. The front office is usually quiet about their plans during the off-season. Why do you think we haven't heard anything about McDyess? A possible trade in the works maybe? I trust our front office. Just be cool, guys. Be cool!
I like what Wilson Chandler can do at the sf. I do think the Spurs should really consider taking a closer look at Landry if they can't bring in a guy like Kaman. Might actually fit in nicely, but he has got to improve on rebounding, the man is far too athletic.
I don't know what were gonna do without another BIG seriously! It's just gonna be a repeat of last season no matter how deep we go in the playoffs.... This is sad but true. I'll still be a SPUR for life.
Why does everyone keep listing anderson as a sf?! We have enough sf for now and need to find a solid 2 to follow manu when he's gone. I love gary neal but he's not that guy. He's a great situational player off the bench but not a starter. And I think the spurs are finally realizing this. Look at the training camp roster, he's listed as a guard!!! There's no g/f there like for green. Everyone needs to realize he's not our future sf
@aespurs Yeah Anderson is a natural SG. However, Pop likes to play small these days so in small line-up JA could be seen as an SF. I also agree your comments about Neal. He is a great role player doing his job what the coach ask him to do; but he is no NBA star. I think his position is more like a Roger Mason Jr. type 3pt specialist. I will be happy if he can improve his ball-handling skills if he could and somewhat I hope he won't be like Mason, who had a wonderful 1st year and then suddenly lost his confidence as well as his shooting.
There is no need to search for a sf. The spurs havw Leonard, Butler and Green. If the spurs amnesty jefferson, it must be for a big guy like Kaman, landry, mcroberts, fesenko or clark. The memory of the grizzlies is still fresh.
