The San Antonio Spurs have announced the signing of point guard T.J. Ford.

The San Antonio Spurs today announced that the team has signed guard T.J. Ford. Per club policy details of the contract were not released.

The 28-year-old Texas native has posted career averages of 11.4 points, 5.9 assists and 3.2 rebounds in 415 regular season games in seven NBA seasons. Prior to signing with San Antonio the 6-0, 165-pound point guard enjoyed stints with Milwaukee, Toronto and Indiana. Ford was selected by Milwaukee in the first round of the 2003 NBA Draft, with the eighth overall pick, after playing two seasons at the University of Texas. He enjoyed his best NBA season during the 2008-09 campaign, averaging 14.9 points, 5.3 assists and 3.5 rebounds in 74 games with the Indiana Pacers.

This is one solid move by the Spurs. With the trade of George Hill, this left a gaping hole at back up point guard and the acquisition of Ford will be more than adequate.

Signing the ex-Texas Longhorn is one of those under-the-radar moves which can prove beneficial down the stretch of this shortened season. With Tony Parker playing for most of the summer and all of the lockout with the French national team and ASVEL-Villeurbanne, should TP succumb to exhaustion, Ford would slid in nicely.

Not to mention he is a savvy veteran who can steady the Spurs' second unit off the bench.

I love this pick up. TJ is solid, and will have something to prove this season.

I think they would Amnesty RJ if a player they like is on Waiver List so they can bid on him. Warriors gave 40 million qualifying offer to Jordan, which means the Clips have to match that, if they still want CP3 they'll probably be willing to part with Kaman (probably not via Amnesty)

The spurs is forgetting the more pressing issue, to have a strong center. They have included never heard guys in the lineup. Who are these guys? Zeller? Hassell? Come on spurs you can do better. Kaman, Landry, Fesenko, Mcroberts, Earl are all available.
