Spurs news and notes: Sayonara Spurs, Duncan's stats on his birthday, and more

Written by Jeff Garcia on .

• Huffington Post says sayonara to the San Antonio Spurs:

The NBA elites are on their way out the back door. Change the place mats to the front door entrance. The Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs and Boston Celtics are moving out. There is a new wave of elitist coming through.

• Express News' Tim Griffin is hoping for a big game from Tim Duncan tonight on Duncan's 35th birthday:

Duncan is averaging 17.6 points, 11.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists in those previous eight games. His most recent game on his birthday last season was one of the worst of his career, when he matched his playoff career low with four points and hit a career-playoff  low 11.1 percent from the field as he missed eight of his nine shots.

• Bloguin's Crossover Chronicles discusses the Spurs:

So I would caution people not to write the Spurs off until they're dead and buried.  Because that team is too good.  It's been there too many times.

• Bloguin's own Hoops Manifesto names Spurs' Gary Neal as part of their All-Rookie Team.

• Seems one huge Spurs fan has some competition. Check out this video from woai.com:

• The Spurs' team physician, David R. Schmidt, will serve as the chairman of the 2011 Valero Alamo Bowl. (bizjournals.com)

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sitting here watching the game and i can't believe it, is this end of the Spurs? don't go out like this please they were in the same situation in 2006 against Dallas and forced a game 7 coming back from 3-1 is going to be hard to do I think it was done in 1981. Spurs need to go back to their old style of basketball shooting all those 3's doesn't work Tim Duncan needs help in the middle, Duncan needs a Tim Duncan so he can become a David Robinson if you know what i mean he can't carry a team any more you need bigs to win they always had bigs in the middle controlling the paint offensively and defensively in their championship years. On a good note it was nice to see Tiago out there he brought energy and toughness tonight in my opinion he should have been out there since game one.It just frustrating to see this team play like this I've been a loyal fan since 1987 and i don't even live in San Antonio or Texas for that matter im not giving up just want them to play better I'll go down with the ship before turn my back on them. But some changes may have to be made (more bigs) Gregg Oden Dwight Howard in 2012 or sign this Ryan Richards kid and some solid wing defenders RJ had a better season than last year but he's more then just a corner three point shooter he can do some of the same things if not better then Sean Elliot did back in he day.But whatever happens i will ride or die with the Spurs. @ Jeff Garcia what's your thoughts.
